We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

Meteor sightings in Upstate New York? Some are convinced they heard and saw meteors near Lake Ontario

Did you hear a loud boom or see a possible meteor shoot through the sky Sunday in Upstate New York?

Oswego, NY -- Did you see a meteor shoot across the sky Sunday afternoon?

Did you hear a loud boom around the same time?

Storm Trackers Team NY posed the question to its Facebook followers today.

"Possible Meteor Sighting?

"We are receiving reports that people may have seen a meteor shooting across the sky late this afternoon. Many reports also of a loud boom noise. I heard it myself. It sounded like thunder! Did you see or hear anything?"

More than 40 people so far have responded. Many said they, too, had heard "a loud boom" around 3:30 or 4 p.m. Some thought it was thunder, while others said the noise was so loud it scared them.

Small meteors strikes happen five to 10 times a year. Large meteors such as the one recently
in Russia are rarer, but still occur about every five years,

As of Tuesday morning, the American Meteor Society had received 90 reports about a fireball seen over Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania on Feb. 25 around 02:13 UTC (Feb. 24 around 7:13 p.m. EST). One EarthSky friend on Facebook, Shannon N Brannigan, wrote:

A very big fireball just lit-up the eastern seaboard at 9:14pm est. It was heading south from the Albany, NY area.

Two nights in a row, is that unusual?

April 22, 2014 before dawn, the Lyrids
The Lyrid meteor shower – April’s shooting stars – lasts from about April 16 to 25. Lyrid meteors
tend to be bright and often leave trails. About 10-20 meteors per hour can be expected at their
peak. Plus, the Lyrids are known for uncommon surges that can sometimes bring the rate
up to 100 per hour.
