Maybe they want to get the snow and ice left in the roads to melty away faster before it freezes up again. Also, on my street for instance, the pavement is in such poor condition that there are depressions full of ice. If you drive over these ice craters with rainwater on top of them, you can't get any traction.
I want people to get used to the idea that they should shovel their walks, I really do. But first things first. In my neighborhood, I notice that aside from the vacant houses, the chronically unshoveled walks belong to homes with at least one able-bodied relatively young adult, often grown men live there. Kids can shovel too, I can remember shoveling snow when I was pretty young, maybe ten years old. Or pay somebody to do your walk. But, like I said,first things first. The city has to get out there and take charge of the services we pay for, and get people used to that. Not make exemptions because some lazy cow doesn't want to find a place to put her car.
I shouldn't even read these threads. They get me going too much.

Where is the plowing not good? Most of the snow is gone now. I mean on the streets. The city worked hard to plow the streets and did a good job. Where my parents live in Rotterdam they had to postpone the trash pick up, but the streets weren't too bad

You sure it's salt and not snow that they are (paying overtime) to remove from the streets due to both the mass of snow that came and the totally inept mayor who declines to issue snow emergencies?

Are you serious? Two cars haven't been able to go down most streets at the same time for a while now. My street is so narrow it's difficult to pull out of the driveway. We can't park on our street unless we want to completely block traffic.

The improvement in the street conditions is due only to the rain and warmth.

I would like to give the mayor credit for finally getting serious about the issue, but I can't, because straightaway he tries to lay a lot of blame on the property owners. Show me one community that does a good job with snow, where you don't have to move your car. You have to take that as a given, that cars have to be off the pavement to be plowed. The second crucial thing, as someone else brought up, is a timely response. I did see a lot of plows out, but a lot of that effort was wasted. I think the mayor is learning, good for him. He wouldn't be having such a difficult time bringing things back up to standard if his predecessor hadn't let things go so bad. That's who he should be blaming, if anyone. Remember how BS used to blame everything on his predecessor?
He (McCarthy) cannot listen to our own Marie Antoinette, either. She's lazy and selfish.

No it was definetly salt.  It was actually so overloaded that the salt was falling of the back of the truck as it turned from Nott Terrace to State Street.  

end of millard street by broadway was closed for snow removal just now....a bucket loader was scraping the road edge and filling trucks...better late than never
