Gone at least until people rid the city of the current elected (with the exception of Riggi).

We so remember those days, Chris and I when we dated, nighttime skating too with lights and music.  I almost forgot about this, but I almost was going to propose one night on the ice, but I was too worried that in the excitement the rink might fall on the ice and it would be hard to find it.  (instead I had her over for a candlelit dinner; see, because at 24 I was a self sufficient adult man already on my second apartment)  And after we got married too and even took the older of our then two kids--the younger barely walking then)

Oh those were the days.

But the crown jewel of the city is no more.  It has been replaced by stealing from the taxpayers to give to the rich few political cronies and the downtown venues too expensive for the average city people.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

the skating rink should be the apperativo skating rink.

Except then, they would put a fence around it and start charging us to skate there. I know some people worry that it would attract an 'element', if skating was reinstated, but I find that the very cold temperatures that usually go along with ice formation act as a natural repellent. Skaters tend to be a very nice crowd, enjoying low cost recreation in the fresh outdoor air.
They spend money on these anti-obesity programs, where they yammer at kids to lose weight, maybe health departments should be promoting inexpensive outdoor activities like skating in winter and swimming in summer. We've hung on to the swimming, but just barely, but there went the skating without a peep.

The "leaders" are too busy trying to drive taxpayers and small businesses that aren't in "the club" out of business.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

it is clear that the city can not finance central park.

so to that I say............sell it to a developer and build homes or a mall!!

it is an un-used piece of tax free property that should be put on the tax rolls.

now this will only work IF the METROPLEX/GILLEN doesn't give the new developers a tax free status!!!!!!

It isn't an unused piece of property, it is a beautiful park. The city could easily take some of the money they give to Proctor's for the benefit of a few connected people, and hire a couple of seasonal workers as needed. We don't need any more developers, Schenectady has been developed for more than a century, we need our elected officials to do their damn jobs and maintain it.
Does anyone know why there is a vehicle parked at the administration building in the park all winter long?
