Back in my first post, that's what I said, bt. I thought everybody knew that. However, in learning more about the episode, I have found that what is really upsetting people is the arrogance on the Facebook page, toward people who purchased tickets. Whoever is doing it, who do they think they are? These are the paying customers. I would say that they are the people who pay Proctor's employees salaries, but that isn't true, Proctor's runs on free money, so maybe that's where the flippant attitude comes from.

in all due respect here.....did the people REALLY need to see this arrogance on Facebook?

proctors does what it want, when it wants, if it wants.........PERIOD!!

But in this case, proctor's statement clearly states that there will be NO REFUNDS!!

I'm sure proctors had a contract with alton brown and since alton brown didn't want to cancel the show (we can only assume this).....he still gets his $$$$.

and this is just my opinion.....we don't know the 'facts' here.

That's a good question, joebxr, but I don't know, I do know they almost never shut down though, only if it is actually impossible for the buses to get upState Street hill, in my memory.
Box, as I was mistaken in thinking you were being your usual O.D.D. self, I apologize.
Being as it was only a small share of ticketholders wanting refunds, the money would ordinarily cut into their profits, but they wouldn't lose anything. But I don't know if the number of tickets sold covered Mr. Brown's pay plus Proctor's expenses. Some shows don't. The thing is, Proctor's probably doesn't know either. They have no idea what they are doing, business-wise. No accountability, literally.

Calling for a state of emergency is nothing more than a money grab. We have become a nation of cry babies.

But it was so very bad that the city of Schenectady cancelled trash collection (well, postponed for a day)

bt, Alton Brown definitely stated he was doing the show. That was his right, and I would want to if I came all the way here. Proctor's was well within their rights not to cancel as well, as that would have been unfair to all the people who were coming to see Alton Brown come hell or high water. Just losethe 'tude, whoever was representing Proctor's on Facebook.

Just curious...did public transportation run during this time?

yes...I was the beer abbey...folks came in to 'kill time' before the show.....buses and taxis were around too.

State of Emergency declared in NYS
Posted: Feb 13, 2014 11:14 AM EST
Updated: Feb 13, 2014 4:14 PM
ALBANY, N.Y.—Governor Cuomo declared a state of emergency for a number of counties in New York State.

Under a state of emergency, resources that are normally restricted to State use are used to assist local governments and laws and regulations.

The following counties are under a snow emergency: Albany, Clinton, Cortland, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Washington and Warren Counties.

"These regions are expected to continue to receive heavy snow that may accumulate at rates of around two to three inches per hour, which will make it difficult for plows to keep some roads clear. New Yorkers should stay off of the roads and remain in their homes until the worst of the storm has passed," said Governor Cuomo.

On Thursday morning, Cuomo declared an executive order for the Mid-Hudson, New York City, and Long Island regions.

People could have used public transportation if they wanted.
Did people not go to work because of state of emergency?
Going to Proctors was a social event and attendance is by choice only.  Ticket refund policy is clear.
I'm sure state of emergency didn't stop people from going to local gin mill or restaurant or store for beer.
Proctors COULD offer refunds or credit as goodwill...they are covered by insurance, I'm sure.

And they're idiots too. It was not bad enough to call a state of emergency. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron. And once again Proctor's policy is clear. And who really gives a rats behind who posts what and how on Facebook. Are we now mind-readers able to discern from print the intent of what's posted on facefreakingbook. My God some of you people are certifiably insane. Not pointing fingers, you know who you are.

Guess what? None of us called a state of emergency. People who didn't attend because they listened to the governor cared about what was posted on facebook, that's who cared. If you don't care about any of this, what are you posting for? The fact that some people want refunds for a show at Proctor's makes some of us insane? I'm not sure where your hostility is coming from, sipps. We were just discussing an issue that other people discussed in other forums. No need for the ad hominem attacks, no need at all, just as there was no need for anyone at Proctor's to be so dismissive of its patrons' concerns.

1.  Alton was here, it is NY, we're use to snow...
2.  Over 2000 people attended, that alone to me "votes" that the show rightly went on.
3.  If cancelled, how many of those 2k people would be whining about it?  Probably more than the handful that missed the show and lost the ticket money.
4.  Alton Brown is awesome - I would have considered getting a ticket if I knew he was coming here.  In the end I'm glad I didn't because to be honest I wouldn't have really wanted to go out in that mess.
5.  While the customer may not always be right - you need to use care when explaining that to them.  If the Proctors FB employee doesn't get that, perhaps they are not a good match for that task.
6.  Cancelling garbage collection was the right thing to do because - unfortunately, we have an imbecile for a mayor who declines against all logic to call a snow emergency and keep the streets relatively clear.

This board does have a "thing" for Proctors.  Deserved or not, there is almost nothing ever posted
positive about it.
If a show flops, it's Proctors fault.  If a show is wildly successful, no one gives Proctors any credit,
just more whining and complaints.

I have no skin in this game other than I do very rarely attend a Proctors event.  None of my tax dollars
are invested in it, or the downtown at large.
But I do know that the more successful Schenectady is, the more successful Schenectady county and
the surrounding area is... the better it is for all of us here.  I've seen the boon that Saratoga is for the
surrounding area, even though I don't live in Saratoga.  I've seen the draw that the TU center and the EGG
pulls into this area, and again, I don't live in Albany or Albany County.
What ever impacts Schenectady in general, also impacts the surrounding area.  Like it or not, we upstaters
are connected economically, socially and culturally.
Proctors is a gem.  Maybe it's an expensive gem, but a gem none the less.  Bitchin about it's every burp
and hiccup doesn't add, it only subtracts.
Constructive criticism is always helpful.  Whining usually isn't.

IMO, Good luck Proctors, Good Luck Schenectady, Good Luck Capitol District and Good Luck NY State.

Box, I don't 'b**ch' about its every hiccup. I don't whine about it either. The criticism leveled at the present management of Proctor's, by me and others here, led to a very informative and revealing article in the paper. If I did not care about the city I live in, and Proctor's Theater, I would probably not criticize, I would just move away. I would not care that it is being run into the ground, which it is. It is easy for you, from a distance, to knock me as having a 'thing', as if that is something bad. It was demonstrated, in black and white, just how bad it is financially down there, numbers don't lie. Do not lecture me about this area, we are all intertwined, blah, blah, blah. A bunch of connected individuals are ripping off all the taxpayers in the county, Schenectady homeowners the worst, and ruining Proctor's. Really, it is better for me if Schenectady is "successful"? I understand that. The reporter who wrote the article understands that, Vince Riggi understands that. You are the one who isn't getting it. Proctor's is a building. I won't hurt it any if I say not so nice things about it. It is not the building I am objecting to. Go back and read the article, tell me, point by point, where I'm wrong, and come up with some hard data on all this "good", not unicorns and rainbows, before you tell me I am bitching and whining.

Madam X.
Where do I point to YOU, in my post?
Where do I single out YOU as the subject of my post.
Where do I accuse YOU of anything in my last post.

It's YOU who assumes that I'm pointing the finger at YOU.
(Every post is not about YOU, ya know)

I again posted my opinion of Proctors and it's impact on the community.  You are free to agree,
disagree or ignore my opinion completely.  It makes no difference to me.  I posted my views, as
does most everyone on this board... you included.
You really shouldn't take every board post as if it were personally directed at you!

Well then, who else criticizes Proctor's on here, and should not be doing it? This board? Do you mean the administrators? Who? I criticize Proctor's, and I learned some things from some of the other posters who criticize it, and I consider their criticism a public service. Exactly who were you attempting to lecture?
Over and over, I and others on this board have demonstrated the connection between the city's choices and the condition of other areas of this city. I don't think it is right, that we have a black hole just hemorrhaging our money, when there are other areas of the city that desperately need it. Proctor's benefits a select few. It is a fact, and time and again I've asked for someone, anyone with any hard evidence to the contrary to show it to me. The reporter who wrote that article was very diligent, she couldn't find the proof that we were wrong, can you? If anyone has a 'thing' for Proctor's, besides me, good for them! I consider them good citizens.
