I would be inclined to agree, except that a state of emergency is a special condition, maybe it wasn't really bad enough to warrant one, but I think that many people would have an expectation that something like a cooking show might be cancelled because of one. Anyway, it seems to be the snotty attitude from somebody at Proctor's that has people so upset. Where does anybody "working" for that big, money-sucking black hole get off being arrogant to the people who buy tickets?
It's only a small number of people seeking refunds anyway, a private business might do something like "just this once, because of confusion, we will give our dissatisfied customers tickets to a future show", or something like that, but no, they have to give the people sass. They probably haven't got the money to give it back if they wanted to, they don't know how much they take in, or where it goes, or if it is stolen, or anything. Way to go, making Schenectady look good (sarcasm).

I'm sorry, but a 12"+ snowfall in the Northeast, is in no way shape or form an emergency. As for refunds, Proctors policy states no refunds, and people know that when they buy the ticket. If you didn't go because of the snow, then too bad you lose. And another thing I have never in my life seen so many people root for failure. You're all screwed up in the head. JMHO

Oh, he did, why wouldn't he, I'm just saying that this time, the normally cut-and-tried policy of no refunds due to weather events had the nuance of the governor telling people to avoid unnecessary travel due to the "emergency". A state of emergency is more or less a legal formality, but there was confusion. Why can't Proctor's make some sort of goodwill gesture?
I saw on tv last night that Cafe Nola cancelled a scheduled event Thursday evening. Proctor's is different, because they just host events, it is the performer's show, but being as so many things got cancelled due to weather, they could at least be sympathetic.

Sipps, there WAS a state of emergency declared, whether you think it was warranted or not. Take it up with the governor. So, a snowstorm in the Northeast is no big deal (I agree), but the people who want the city to just HANDLE it when it occurs are "constantly carping"? Which is it? Wanting my city to not get any worse, wanting its workers to do their jobs, wanting a money-sucking black hole to stop bleeding the taxpayers, where is the "root[ing] for failure" in THAT?

Back in my first post, that's what I said, bt. I thought everybody knew that. However, in learning more about the episode, I have found that what is really upsetting people is the arrogance on the Facebook page, toward people who purchased tickets. Whoever is doing it, who do they think they are? These are the paying customers. I would say that they are the people who pay Proctor's employees salaries, but that isn't true, Proctor's runs on free money, so maybe that's where the flippant attitude comes from.

refunds?

DAMMIT, BOX! I did not say they had to give refunds! Do not put words in my mouth! In my first post, I stated that I thought it was widely understood that there were no refunds if a show took place. The show did take place, and Mr. Brown presumably got paid. As I further stated, as did HarryP, the issue upsetting people seemed to be the attitude by someone connected with Proctor's, on the Facebook page. There seemed to be some confusion over just what a state of emergency meant, on the part of some people. Why would anyone feel the need to be all snippy over that? These are customers. Do you think the person posting on Facebook didn't need to be sympathetic, at least, to upset customers? Does that cost anything?

A) People should read the fine print .. no refund means NO REFUND.

B) People should really raise their standards as far a entertainment goes.  Tickets were running from $25 to    $125 for this show.  The economy must be great if people will waste that kind of money to see Alton Brown.  If it had been to see Giada DeLaurentis, than it would have almost been worth it.  Although, this hype over "celebrities pretending to be cooks" is way out of hand.
