State street in Schenectady closed due to a fire

Posted: Jan 31, 2014 7:54 PM EST

Schenectady, N. Y. - State street is closed due to a fire at Rudnick's at 308 State street.

The Fire Chief tells us the road will remain closed for several more hours as crews continue to work at the scene.

Fire crews responded after getting a call for a smell of smoke in a neighboring building and discovered a fire in a back room.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there were no injuries reported.

When were they supposed to close?  I thought it was soon

Let's see, Mr James was a long time taxpaying business.  It wanted to stay in business but the dems and plex put them out of business because they forced them to pay their own taxes PLUS the property & school taxes of their billionaire competitor Paul Mitchell.

The dems and plex also put the long time taxpaying business, Rudnicks, out of business by not giving them a time, making them suffer financially, and making them also pay their own taxes PLUS subsidize the rest of the properties downtown owned by the millionaires and billionaires.

Fires at both places, the dems and plex want to take more buildings downtown to give to rich developers and make homeowners pay the taxes.  Is the city trying to to something so the buildings can be condemned and demolished maybe at the expense of the long time taxpaying businesses?

Too many coincidences.

Firefighters stop blaze in Schenectady clothing store
Friday, January 31, 2014

Firefighters stopped a blaze at a downtown Schenectady clothing store Friday night before it could spread to connected buildings.

Deputy Fire Chief Kurt Gerfin said firefighters were called around 6 p.m. to a report of a fire in the Trustco Bank building on State Street, but there wasn’t a fire there when they arrived.

A firefighter got on a ladder truck and spotted smoke coming from Rudnick’s clothing store next door, at 308 State St. Rudnick’s is in the middle of a stretch of several connected State Street buildings near Erie Boulevard.

Gerfin said a space heater was running in a rear room on the first floor, and firefighters also found arcing wires nearby.

It was unclear immediately if the space heater damaged the wires and caused the fire or if the wires were to blame, Gerfin said.

The rear room sustained fire, smoke and water damage. The rest of the building sustained smoke damage.

Drove by about an hour ago, the front of the store appears to be ok accept for plywood being placed on the front door. Although with smoke most of their inventory is probably no good. Hopefully their insurance will cover their losses.

Such a WONDERFUL LONG TIME TAXPAYING business

Got the shaft by the dems, The mayor and his dem team stole from them, put them out of businsss and they can't even afford to pay the taxes.   (yep they are behind---per official records, as are other properties downtown who the dems have snubbed and stole money from)

We don't need no work clothes in Schenectady. I thought all taxpaying businesses were being replaced by tax dodging arts/farts. Downtown goes from bad to worse.
What's the latest on the Trustco HQ that Death Ray and the DEM crew bought at the top of the real estate bubble and permanently yanked off the tax rolls? A toy store, grocery or gin mill? Meanwhile County real estate prices keep tanking and even DEM insiders can't get what they paid 10 years ago. Also termed renaissance, rebirth and Miracle by the
Mohawk.

Rudnicks was such a great business!

It's very sad that the Metroplex is so inept that they couldn't bring other retail Downtown to compliment and imitate this long standing staple. Sad that economic planning has a way of not entering the mind of Mr. Gillen.

So..what bar will be moving in.....

I bet Mr. Mazzone will be able to answer that.

According to Death Ray they had a bad business plan. They paid their taxes, did not seek a phony PILOT and did not sell out to Metrograft. Here's what will move in NOTHING.
Just like lower State which looks like phony town in Blazing Saddles. But gee the curbs and new lights look great.

A true fire sale.
Hey, who needs a business that draws people from outside Schenectady (it did)?
Mr. James also lost business due to being displaced by a fire, did it not? A struggling business can be pushed over the edge to insolvency by a thing like that.
