SCHENECTADY
Three eyeing appointment to council vacancy
BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Three people are vying for appointment to the City Council at this weekend’s Democratic City Committee meeting.
But whoever comes out on top may have a long way to go before actually taking the vacant seat on the council.
The committee will recommend an appointee, choosing between Mohammed Hafez, Robert Barnes and Ed Kosiur. However, the City Council made it clear last year that it would not be bound by the committee’s decisions on appointments, and some council members want to hold their own round of interviews.
Several Republicans have also applied directly to the City Council for consideration, while the Democratic City Committee is considering only Democrats.
Meanwhile, the only non-Democrat on the council, Vince Riggi, has proposed the council not appoint anyone. “Let’s leave the seat open. Let the voters decide in November,” he said.
Two sometimes-allies of his, Councilman Carl Erikson and Councilwoman Marion Porterfield, said they could live with or without a vacant seat until the election.
“I wouldn’t be upset if it was vacant,” Erikson said.
But Councilman John Mootooveren and Councilwoman Leesa Perazzo feel strongly that the council must have seven members this year.
“I think the taxpayers should be represented and the seat should be filled,” Mootooveren said, while Perazzo cited a tied vote in executive session Monday as an indication for the need for a seventh member.

In actuality they might consider going the other way and REDUCE the council to 5 members. This way they can prevent ties and reduce the pay/health ins. expenditures to the taxpayers.   After all the council was able to conduct it's business in totality over the previous 20 or so months with the absence of Ms.Blanchard.    It did not seem any of the required business done by the council did not get done.  When the city population was 100,000 a need may have been there for 7 on the council.   But now with the population hovering in the 60-62,000 range, can 7 or even 6 council members be justified.   Would be of interest to hear councils justification for the 6/7 council members requirement, other than for a tiebreaking scenario.   And in light of their operating  just fine(?) these last 20 months of only having 6 on the council.

Mootoveeren wants another puppet to sit across from him who is going to lie on his job status.  Just like he did no credibility whatsoever! Mootoveeren doesn't care about the tax payers he's working hard with the DEMS to find new ways to screw the tax payers. What a disgrace to the Guyanese community!

Mootooveren will accomplish nothing, no way McCarthy will let him. If he thinks he's going to improve "The outlook for the Guyanese",  or anyone else for that matter, think again.. They may throw him a bone and let him be out front with a piece of useless feelgood legislation. He'll do what he's told to or goodbye, unfortunately or not.

A couple years ago the dem were saying that the fourth highest vote getter in the election should be the one appointed to the vacant seat.

So, don't all of us intelligent people believe that the fourth highest vote getter in the 2013 council election should get the vacant seat?

Once again the dems are HYPOCRITES--just like when they unanimously said NO to Jurzynski when he wanted to institute a trash fee; but then the dems unanimously and overwhelmingly said YES to a trash fee when the dem mayor full of BS proposedthe exact same thing----then the DEMS have raised the trash fee over and over since that time, that mayor of BS who said the trash fee would be the saving grace for the city---yep, sure, falling tax base, falling home values, people fleeing the city, record high numbers of vacant houses, increasing numbers of abandoned houses, nice houses sit on the market for sale for often for a year or more with asking prices reduced by 40 and 50% lower than what the city claims they will sell for (but the dems REFUSES to reassess, would be MUCH TO EMBARRASING to admit houses have dropped so low in value).

But lets ask the guy who says Schenectady is improving, Schenectady is in a renaissance, the mayor and his team are doing a wonderful job --- where is those dems supporters, why don't they avoid speaking about the tax base, the home values, the increased taxes, etc?

If he is smart he will just host a cable show "Mootervooter Now" and photobomb like Tonkangelo.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I think that the appointment of Ed Kosiur to the City Council is a wonderful idea. He has the experience, and the knowledge of the City to be a splendid member of that board. Hopefully with his addition some of the "renegades" on that body will finally be put in their place, and the Mayor can finally have the support he needs to move the City forward.

I'm an enigma, even to myself.

Ed Kosier is exactly the sheep McCarthy wants on the Council and is every taxpayers nightmare.

Kosier will not only ignore the plight of the working middle class taxpayers, by ignoring how and why money is being spent, but his lip prints are already visible on McCarthy's Fruit of the Looms!!
