Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
McCheese. How much evidence does he need that he needs to stop what he's doing, cut OUR losses, and start doing what he's supposed to be doing? I don't know what to say about the schools. They got rid of the $100,000k plus madman, what happened to his henchmen, or henchwomen? Maybe time to give up on the shifting kids around, closing buildings, adding on to buildings, renting space while getting rid of space, none of that teaches a kid anything. Fire the people in charge of all the shifting around, get some people whose only responsibility is teaching. How do we expect the kids to learn, when the administrators don't learn from their own mistakes? I do have some sympathy for them, though, the administrators, they are competing for the same pool of money with a bunch of hogs who want it for their connected friends. Good schools can bring about gentrification.

Faced with a $10 million budget shortfall, the superintendent of schools says the Schenectady City School District board will be forced to make difficult choices about cutting programs and staff unless it gets a state aid windfall.
"We're going to have staff layoffs, we're going to have program cuts, absolutely," said school chief Larry Spring on Friday about the 2014-15 budget. "I don't see a way to avoid layoffs; the scope depends tremendously on the areas in which they happen." Last year, a large number of aides and teaching assistants were a casualty of budget woes.
I'm sure the budget could be a lot less if the schools weren't trying to play the role of parent for every single child in the district. The schools need to stop with all the social programs and get back to education.

the system likes to 'build' machines to replace the parents(bad/good) so no one has to volunteer or be a community...
they are the ones to complain that you didn't give enough so we're going to take your money/taxes and tell you when you have given enough(of course it never will be) and use it at the political podium every election cycle. we'll label more people poor/stupid/challenged and other rich/educated/comfortable. kind of like church labels sinners/saints.

Funny how no one can put and two together. The problem is "state mandates" for local county DEM frauds and "fairness" from school board incompetents. The district is $10 MILLION in the red because of Downtown exemptions and wild spending on noneducational programs. But don't fret, the City sheeple will suck it up again and keep voting for DEM fossils that can't balance a check book. Ed Kosiur is leaving for the pathetic City Council just in time!

School Board President Cathy Lewis said Thursday the $10 million budget gap will be a "huge hole to fill."
In May, voters approved a $159 million spending plan for the current fiscal year that included a 1 percent tax levy increase and relied on $2 million from a fund balance. The budget also eliminated 105 positions. "
So let me get this straight. The school district receives $73.2 million from the state (plus ANOTHER 2% increase this year), included a tax increase from the Schenectady homeowners, used $2 million from their own fund balance, for a yearly school budget of $159 million. Where is the budget going to?? Pensions, life-long medical benefits for Schenectady teachers past and present, inflated salaries for administrators and principals for MP Middle school who can't last more than a year in that position??
The only people in the City NOT getting their fair share of the $159 million dollars....the kids.
