So sad that the bigots can't help but throw in the ethnic slurs into a decent conversation.

Canali's is my favorite place in Schenectady County, my favorite bar is the Bier Abbey. I have been to Johnny's twice, once was ok, the other outstanding. I've also become a fan of Zen, Cool bar, good mojitos and a tasty Asian cuisine.

These are my feelings too ... I think Johnny's has to hurt Appertivo ... ... Maybe they have the low prices to hook us in, but for now Johnny's is the best buy in that area.

Everyone wants the next new thing. When Mexican Radio finally opens Johnny's will empty out. Appertivo is an ripoff that is steps from Proctor's but stops food
service before shows end. Go to Ambition for lunch and park by City Hall. Canali's, Ferrari's and Johnny Ric's are all better than Johnny's with the alley run to the car.

We have never been to johnny's and don't know if we ever will since we NEVER go downtown or anywhere in the city unless it is for business. HOWEVER.....we have heard nothing but raves about this place!!! The only negative we hear is that you can't just go in and expect to sit down to dinner WITHOUT a reservation......and 4 deep at the bar. We hear that the food is great!!! Again....never been there and may never in the future!!

All other eateries that are named in other posts are great as well. Johnny's is just the new kid on the block right now. One we may never experience.

I think reservations are appropriate on busier nights - like Fridays, or if there is a big show on, or during holiday time.  Other days of the week you likely have better luck getting seated without reservations - maybe a bit of a wait but nothing huge.

The bar can get very crowded on Friday nights, but I was there at 10PM on Saturday and there was plenty of room.

Appertivo is a 'private' hang out
