“When you go across the state and you look at Schenectady or Poughkeepsie or even parts of Albany, we have many cities where there are extreme pockets of poverty,” Mr. Camara said in an interview. “There’s an urgent need for us as policy makers to address that growing gap between the rich and the poor.”

this will end up being.....redistribution of wealth. there are no jobs and not enough educated folks.
and it is questionable how many 'wealthy' folks are left and how much disposable cash they have left after taxes/fees.

Take a look at the food bank lines at the Schenectady Inner City Ministry, City Mission and Salvation Army, watch the daily migration on lower Broadway of those seeking benefits at the DSS building.  Glenville Reps calculated that 47 cents of every dollar goes to social programs.  Regardless of the accuracy of these numbers, Schenectady County one of the highest taxed around.  We do know Metrograft has removed a lot of tax revenue.  Tax exemptions require higher taxes for the same service, more services require even higher taxes yet.  Schenectady County:  "Schenectady County has one of the highest median property taxes in the United States, and is ranked 74th of the 3143 counties in order of median property taxes.

The average yearly property tax paid by Schenectady County residents amounts to about 5.52% of their yearly income . Schenectady County is ranked 54th of the 3143 counties for property taxes as a percentage of median income." (http://www.tax-rates.org/new_york/schenectady_county_property_tax)  54th out of 3143 counties is the upper 98.3%!

          What do you think?

And those taxes done include the fees.  Imagine the ranking if the fees were added.

when there is NOTHING of value there is no fiat to follow....the people are just being led around like sheep for slaughter...

choice:

work 30-60hours a week at a sh!tty service job AND still be able to qualify for subsidies

OR

stay home with family/kids AND still be able to qualify for subsidies

you can't afford me and I can't afford you

those who control the land ownership control the masses
those who control the food supply control the masses
those who control the water supply control the masses
etc etc etc

ROFL, are those numbers really off!

5.52% of income?

Census reflects a typical income in Schenectady of $40,000 per year, that is TOTAL HOUSEHOLD income (NOT "per person").

5.52% of roughly $40,000 would be SLIGHTLY above $2,000 per year in taxes.

The REAL facts are that people are paying substantially more than that percent in taxes.  A house assessed at about $100,000 pays close to $6,000 a year in taxes and "fees" (fees are taxes as well).

So people in Schenectady are paying generally 15% or more of their income in local taxes.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

I've been seeing more articles online that even the educated can't find jobs. They're working for minimum
wage and are lucky if they can get help.

Schenectady County also has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the NATION. Up with other DEM hot beds like Detroit and Camden, NJ. The problem is not the gap, it's the lack of any
entry level jobs/internship programs in this County. Back in the day you could take industrial arts in high school and have a good paying job at GE or ALCO. Today? Good luck getting anything. For too many young girls the only future is at DSS. Nobody wants to talk about this issue.

You're right. None of the white money people who do all the dinner parties in the city, most who have moved to the suburbs, want to deal with this ... Out of sight out of mind. But there is no solution in sight to address this. The poor population will only grow and there is no way for them to pull themselves up.

You don't have to be white to be rich, nobody said that. You do have to be white to be part of the exclusive downtown taxpayer subsidized money crowd, apparently. It is so glaring, it is embarrassing.
