Quoted from Henry

That doesn't change the problem if the police resources are still used just to find the victimless crimes. Our city is looking for money not the criminals and that is where our money is being used for today.

I repeat....NO argument with your point!

I don't know any particulars, it's something I overheard, I do know that our parking bureau, or whatever it is, has been highly dysfunctional for years, and that tickets are issued in an arbitrary manner. For instance, over there on Glenwood Boulevard, it was a total mess from the snowstorm, it is clearly posted for alternate side parking, no emergency needs to be declared for that, nobody gets ticketed. In my neighborhood, I notice that even in a school zone, someone gets away with completely blocking the sidewalk with cars parked in their driveway, extending out to the street. I rented for years, my car was my responsibility whether or not I had off-street parking provided. We could have used the revenue from legitimate tickets for years. Only now, there is a third party involved, do we really not have the resources to deal with this issue?
My point is not that we shouldn't enforce rules. It's just that, why were there all these unpaid tickets in the first place, and why are some areas of the city ticket proof, and was the part of government that was supposed to deal with this really so starved of funding that they were unable to do their job? Why? Now that collection has gone to a third party, which gets a cut of the revenue, will their be a corresponding cutback in city personnel?

They recently towed everyone on Union Street after the last storm and then didnt plow it.  Now everyone is back parking there and they cant plow properly even if they want to.  Incompetence at the fullest!

Madam X,

I received a letter too, yesterday or the day before. I also paid for the ticket very soon after receiving it as
the fine doubles in like 15 days.

And of course I paid the thing with cash. I kept the receipt for quite awhile knowing the ineptness of our
"gov't".Then when I got a new pocketbook, I ditched the receipt. How long does one have to keep
receipts?

Forever apparently.

I wrote the collection company a letter disputing the debt. I told them to double check their records
because our city doesn't know what the hell is going on and to prove that it wasn't paid. They didn't even put the violation date on it, it was awhile ago but I don't remember when.

They also didn't double the fine as it should have been if it were late or unpaid.

Now you have me wondering if it's a legit letter. It looked legit but you never know. I just worry about it
going on my credit report. I really don't want to pay the effing thing twice. I will be extremely pissed.

I just called them and it is legit. She said she was sorry and to have nice holiday when I told her it was
paid. Gee, thanks. If any one else wants to call them the number is 382-5211.

I guess I'll just keep on disputing it and bog them down with ppwk. Asses.

From what I overheard, the agency legitimately received the ticket business from the city. Nobody was expecting the piles of unfinished business from years back to be included. And people are being caught unawares with this old stuff they thought they took care of. I personally thought that the business that was going to an agency was the business from those new, expensive meters going in downtown, not years- old contents of somebody's overflowing in basket.
I think maybe anybody who gets one of these notices, who paid at the time, should probably call one of the television stations. This could be a major screw-up by the city, but we won't know until people come forward.

Union Street is a priority street, but under BS' reign of terror priority streets weren't a priority, so everybody forgot what that means, apparently. If the street was plowed at the right time, people would not be suffering from the guessing game of when to put the cars back. Why does everything the city does seem to be designed to inflict maximum pain and confusion on the citizenry? It's snow removal, for heaven's sake, we don't need NASA-like planning to get it done right.
