I keep hearing this ALL THE TIME, and it IS NOT TRUE! There has been NO NET GAIN! Metroplex spending has not been "good for" Schenectady, businesses are still leaving, the Y, SCC, Proctor's, were already there, there aren't hundreds of jobs, and downtown was not a ghost town. And yes, I would rather have the empty buildings, if buildings had been empty, because putting a tax-supported business in a building is worse for Schenectady than having the vacant buildings. People make these really uninformed arguments, back it up with some hard data or shut up! Metrofraud is a ripoff, it is killing the city, not helping. If one more person says that the city "had to do something"....
No, they didn't. What they needed to do was THEIR JOBS!
I might need to run this message once a week. It isn't just the tax bill, it's all the For Sale signs, it's the disgraceful condition of the roads,or the cheap fix, it is all the leaky pipes under the roads, it is the popular local custom of stabbing,it's that we've lost population but our housing projects are overflowing, it's the houses crumbling because people can't afford to repair them...
No! Metroplex isn't helping, AT ALL, it is causing real harm. And these people that argue for it just have their fingers in the pie somewhere.
While I'm on the topic, I'm sick of "the poor", as well. Unless you have a disability, are elderly, or a child, take care of your own damn problems, feed your own kids, pay your own rent. We have multiple levels of freeloaders in this city. We should change the name, to Freeloadia, or something.

Between Proctor's and Broadway, less than half the businesses are rented, both in the front and in the rear behind the other theater.

Same thing for State St from Broadway to the bridge.

And Erie of course is only half occupied as well.

Plenty of shiny new buildings with nobody in them.

All you have to do Madam X is contact 'Alliance Party' head Roger Hull and thank him for creating the wonderful entity known as 'Metroplex'

And notice that neither the city dems, nor the county dems, norplex will divulge the facts, they will NOT provide the balance sheet, the vacncy/occupancy details, lease information, rental prices, etc for the buildings the TAXPAYERS paid for!

NO TRANSPARENCY by this dem crew!

Once again the nayboobs are blowing smoke out their behinds.  There are certainly more businesses and more people working downtown than there were a little over 10 years ago.
At least the nayboob who started the thread admitted that she prefers to see EMPTY buildings downtown.  That lets everyone know that these folks don't want to improve their community -- They want to tear it down and knock it down so that it will be the sorry mess that it was under the GOP in the 1990's.

I don't really know if the reps would have done any better or different.

What I DO KNOW....is that it has not helped Schenectady/county 'as a whole'.

Taxes are the highest in the state! There are slums everywhere! Vacancies everywhere! Slumlords everywhere! Infrastructure crumbling! Crime rising! School system is substandard. 60% of the folks are on some kind of public assistance. DSS building bursting at it's seams! And the 'few' responsible 'tired' property owners are drowning in taxes and fees.

NO.....it ain't working!!

And WHERE are the businesses, DV?

Where are the clothing stores downtown
Where are the shoe stores downtown
Where are the toy stores downtown?
Where are the computer stores downtown?
Where are the video and music stores downtown?
Where are the coat stores downtown?
Where are the craft stores downtown?
Where are the furniture stores downtown?
Where are the hardware stores downtown?
Where are the home needs stores downtown (draperies, bedding, bath, dishes, glassware, utensils, pots and pans, linens, etc)?
Where are the "kitchen needs" stores downtown, (i.e., small things like coffee pots, can openers, mixers, toasters, etc)?
Where are the jewelry stores downtown?
Where are the sporting goods stores downtown?
Where are the pets needs stores downtown?
Where are the outdoor needs stores downtown (lawn mowers and other yard needs, snow blowers, patio etc)

Hell, downtown can't even attract a dollar store downtown!!!!!!

Of course, we ALL know that DV will NOT answer these questions, because the ONLY answer he could provide is "there are NO BUSINESSES DOWNTOWN."

There are the GOVERNMENT theaters and gin mills, and places for DV to feed himself on the taxpayers teet.

He PRETENDS to have me blocked and so won't answer.

So how about others on here ask him these questions, ask DV to state where the clothing stores are, the music stores, etc, the PRIVATE businesses that were NOT funded by the taxpayers, Challenge him to answer, he STILL will not respond.

Oh yeah, ask DV what downtown has done for the tax base in the city, what effect it has had on the property values, on the neighborhoods, the tax BILLS, the home sales, the quality of life in the NEIGHBORHOODS.   He will NOT respond.

Spews NONSENSE BABBLE, but does not provide one teeny weeny shred of proof to support the things he says!

I was never in favor of Metroplex, nor was I ever a Roger Hull fan. Roger Hull would not have been an idiotic liar when it came to putting together a budget, that's all.
DVOR, I've been down this road before. I present facts, which you think you are countering, with name-calling. I've never been supportive of tearing down anything, except the derelict buildings in HH and MP that are a danger to those neighborhoods, particularly children.
You are not a real adult, anyway. The people who argue most vociferously in favor of the downtown rip-off are not real adults in the real world for the most part, either. Not as bad as you, but they are delusional when it comes to their own value to the city. People who don't live here, and drop in to tell us what is good for us, and then go home again to someplace with better services and low crime, invariably have a finger in the pie that they won't acknowledge. THAT is what is tearing down Schenectady. Too much, total, focus on those who are just passing through, those who stop in regularly for a piece of pie, those imaginary folks who MIGHT want to live here if they can destroy enough of our history and get enough ugly apartments built for them, those who get paid to live here some some kook can make money off them, etc.
Those who were pushing this agenda, but did not have a finger in the pie, are getting out. I would say getting out while the getting is good, but they stupidly left it too late.
The Proctor's empire is about to collapse. We supported Proctor's before it became a massive rip-off, and we will support it again, when the madness ends. How about those lies, labeled as history, on the website? Isn't history supposed to be true? What kind of people put lies out there, labeled as truth, to make themselves look heroic?

Can't count the relocation of existing private sector jobs located in taxpaying properties to properties (sometimes only a few hundred feet away), that are exempt from property and school taxes.

And then there are the taxpaying properties which have now closed up leaving vacant properties.

But of course DV will. NEVER ADDRESS that FACT!

Of course, we ALL know he will NOT EVER provide a list of stores at which people can really shop.

Yeah, DV claims to have me blocked.  Why would he block me?   Obviously because the truth hurts, he just can't bear to read the truths that we provide.

There's no doubt that the Metrokratz cartel is a scam....and I am proud to inform you fine folks that our newest Legislator Brian McGarry (R) / District 4 was
the ONLY one who said NO to more Metrokratz borrowing at the County meeting the other night.

It's not easy to be the lone dissenter.....and it requires courage and strong principles......kudos to Brian for standing up to them.

I was downtown last weekend, I didn't exactly see crowds of Christmas shoppers. That nimrod cannot come up with the list of places people actually shop at, without including all the places that have nothing at all to do with Metroplex. No more shopping at Anaconda Kaye, no more shopping at Rudnick's,no more Army-Navy, no more dollar stores, no more THRIFT STORE, I don't need to go downtown to shop at CVS, those drug stores are everywhere, except, of course, downtown only has the one, Rite-Aid and Walgreen's won't even bother with the Renaissance.
We've been through this before, he makes unfounded assertions about downtown, then versus now, and when you call him on it, he starts the name-calling. There is something the matter with him. Of course, we knew that, because he can't live as an adult.
Now then I have become enlightened as to the racism downtown, anybody who supports that bunch of liars is a racist.
I'm still waiting to learn which decades Proctor's was closed for.

He'll be claiming to block you next, just a fairy tale story to avoid responding to you in the future, he just can't address/respond to the facts we present.

there is TONS and TONS of vandalism that goes on downtown. but that information will never see the light of day.

Proctors is running in the red while the 'fat cat' is living his dream on the backs of the taxpayers!

Businesses (the ones that are there) are barely making it....EVEN THO THEY ARE TAX EXEMPT!!

The residents are struggling! Slum lords are EVERYWHERE! The roads are crumbling!

The city better wake up quick....cause their tax base is crumbling right in front of their dimwit eyes!
