Organic Milk Healthier Than Regular Milk!

Organic milk contains more heart-healthy fatty acids than regular milk, says study
author Charles Benbrook, a research professor at the Center for Sustaining Agriculture
and Natural Resources at Washington State University. The WSU researchers tested
nearly 400 samples of organic and conventional milk over 18 months.

“There’s really no debate around the world -- when you feed dairy cows more grass,
you improve the fatty acid profile of milk. You also increase the protein level,”
Benbrook says. On the other hand, cows fed a corn-based diet produce milk that’s
higher in omega-6 fatty acids.

The reason organic milk is healthier comes down to its ratio of omega-6 to omega-3
fatty acids, which is lower than in regular milk. A diet containing too many omega-6
fatty acids and not enough omega-3s has been linked to heart disease, as well as
cancer, inflammation and autoimmune diseases. That’s because your gut converts
omega-6s to arachidonic acid, which can cause inflammation. But the anti-inflammatory
powers of omega-3s help to counterbalance that reaction, which is why keeping that
ratio low is so important. (An omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 2.3 to 1 is best for heart
health, research suggests.)

Organic is more money but you get a better product.  I'm not saying it's for everyone... only those
who don't want to drink growth hormones, antibiotics and pesticides.

Since much of these compounds are concentrated in milk fat, that is used to produce butter,
there is even a greater reason to buy organic butter.

I find it curious that as more and more people are looking at the quality of our food, as a factor in the dramatic increase in children's health problems such as diabetes, our surgeon general keeps to herself. We have a nanny government butting in everywhere else, but children's health? Why is that a taboo topic?

You can buy Organic Grass Fed beef in limited supply at supermarkets, but the need is still greater than
the supply.
Organic eggs, poultry, pork and beef is still an emerging market in today's supermarkets.  Local organic
farmers is the only option for most people.

There is still a lucrative market for the junk, as you see states like Connecticut deciding that there is a "need" for the schools to serve three meals a day to schoolchildren. This is a back-door giveaway to Big Food.
I'm encouraged by Whole Foods' decision that they are going to 'source' all the food they sell. Big Food spent a lot of money making sure people in a couple of key states would remain ignorant of what is in the foods they buy. This is the free market asserting itself.

Cumberland farms at Ft Hunter Rd has a sign on the door stating their milk suppliers have promised no human growth hormones in their milk.

85% of all corn in 2013 is genetically modified Monsanto Corp products.

Cows eat corn feed.

Organic corn feed is $30 per 50lb bag.

GM corn feed is $10 per 50lb bag.

Cows are designed to eat grass, not corn.  Eating corn is bad for cows and bad for the milk
that they produce.

Grass fed is the way to go.

Most dairy cows are fed grain, silage and hay.

Along with anti-biotics.

Organic is a USDA certification.  It's a license.  It means didily squat, except you can advertise organic.

Go to a Washington state big Ag apple orchard and you will see lots that are licensed organic right in the middle on non organic apple trees.  So all around that crop of organic, pesticides are sprayed, non organic fertilizers are used, but of course none get on the organic apples in the middle of their orchard.

The state makes money from licensing, and the grower marks up the price.

there was a report a couple of years ago about 'organic'.

they said that most products labeled 'organic' ARE NOT!!

you really have to do a lot of research to find out what is 100% organic.

We had a juicer and juiced fresh veggies and fruit. We bought only organic....only to find out that they were NOT 100% organic.
and we paid a good buck for the organic produce.

buyer beware.....just sayin

FDA Targets Antibiotics in Meat

Quoted Text
The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it would begin phasing out the use of
antibiotics in animal feed that make animals grow faster on less food, while phasing in
requirements for veterinary oversight of the remaining uses of such drugs.
