Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s veto of a bill to extend the film tax credit program to upstate could put a dent in Schenectady’s proposal to reinvent a former industrial site along the Mohawk River into a film studio.http://blog.timesunion.com/cap.....ve-from-cuomos-veto/

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I'm glad, because these tax credits are a bad thing for New Yorkers, but on the other hand,Cuomo thinks they're a good thing, and he clearly sees Schenectady as the holding tank for downstate's overflow.

This 'film tax credit' has NOT benefited the taxpayers.
It has only helped line the pockets of McMorris and his friends and family club .
Whatever Cuomo's reason is....agree or not.............it has done NOTHING for the taxpayers.....NOTHING!!
And it appears that even Cuomo knows that Schenectady is nothing more than a money pit!!

I think SEPTIC TANK is a better word, or better yet- CESSPOOL

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Cesspool would be good too, but I chose holding tank over septic because a septic tank is designed to treat the waste naturally and make it clean again, while with the holding tank it just sits there until somebody decides to do something with it.

Good.

Corporate welfare has already infested Schenectady.

If there was no corporate welfare, Schenectady would have low taxes and be business and homeowner friendly.

More pie in the sky from your Metrograft team! Every DEM running in the County was screaming about this "great accomplishment of our unified development team".
Another Big House. Another Van Dyke I and II. No major company is moving to this County, no major retailer is coming Downtown until we cut DEM confiscatory taxes.
And handing out more tax giveaways just swifts the burden to the oppressed homeowners. After 9 years of Death Ray finally some people are waking up. Schenectady is a big
joke to State DEMS. They want nothing to do with these local idiots Mayor McCheese and Nisky Brucker.

They should ask themselves why the casino crowd hasn't come a knockin' to get in on the renaissance. If you were looking to site your a casino in the upstate region, and Saratoga Springs said no, wouldn't you go to the next available city with a thriving downtown nightlife?

BTW, a film studio shouldn't go in anywhere except on its own dime, but if one were going in, in Schenectady, a better location would be on Eastern Parkway by Price Chopper where there are a whole slew of buildings going begging. Why waste valuable, scarce industrial property far from the center of things on that type of business? I would, however, stipulate that they not take that vacant lot on the corner off the owner's hands.

The old ALCO site is in the high flood risk area.

Nothing should go there.

It looked to me like it became a higher flood risk after they went in there and cleared everything for the new Potemkin Village. That could be why they are now looking at a movie studio, the "high-end" (overpriced) townhouses, or whatever the hell they were going to be, would've been a tough sell when people went to get a mortgage and found out what kind of insurance costs they were looking at.

Apparently, Galesi's reach is restricted to only the sheeple at Metroplex and in the Mayor's motley crew. Too bad Cuomo isn't on speed dial...he just keeps ignoring Gillen's begging to hand over $15 million to this film studio.

So, the taxpayers would fork over $15 million PLUS tax credits PLUS other 'facade' grants for a film studio employing how many.....50 people.

Thank you Governor, you just saved the City and State taxpayers millions and Galesi has to find someone else to pimp out for his next windfall.

it is a GREAT NEWS that a private company wants to locate and invest in Schenectady.
It is GREAT NEWS that it will bring a good number of jobs DIRECTLY as well as create additional jobs INDIRECTLY.

This announcements is the first in a series of POSITIVE new developments coming to Schenectady County.  THE RENAISSANCE IS DEFINITELY UNDERWAY.

Yeah, a private company that will be given handouts from the financially struggling taxpayers (of which you are NOT one)

While I have always maintained and always will that the staff at Metroplex/County Economic Development has done a great job.  All indicators that Schenectady County is heading in the right direction.  THE RENAISSANCE CONTINUES.

Spending money, no matter what the combination of funding sources, to build a house, a business (in this case a film studio) or even a non-profit or cultural building IS an investment.  There are benefits derived during the construction phase and, also, once it is completed.

Even if there is some Metroplex and/or state assistance, the film company would also INVESTING money into the project.  And, you notice that these nayboobs don't seem to be upset that our state tax dollars helped finance the Luther Forest/Global Foundries project to the tune of well over a billion dollars?  Why?  Because they only want to trash talk about  Democrats in Schenectady County.

SO, what has the little weeny DV got to say now?

Back in October when he was shaking his weeny for the film studio, and other spending of the taxpayers money, notice he said it's an "INVESTMENT."

I replied to him and asked for him to explain HOW it's an investment.   I asked him to explain how this so called investment has helped the city.  What affect has it had on homeowners financial situation, what affect thee so called investments have had on the city's tax base, on the property values, on the numbers of home sales, on the home sale prices, on the tax bills, on the ability of city homeowners to successfully sell their homes, on the willingness of existing residents to continue to live IN the city, on the desirability of people to move into the city.

Of course he avoided responding because he cannot produce one teeny weeny shred of evidence that it is an "investment.

And now, well, DV, what have you got to say for yourself now??????

What are the taxpayers (of which you are NOT one) getting for their money?    TOTAL SILENCE FROM DV.  (soon he will be gone from these boards forever, we will read no more cheering from the dems)

So DV, care to tell us when you are going to move INTO the city?   Do you visit people in the city in your pastoral job?  Are they telling you how tough it is for them, struggling financially?  Are you learning about how many of these city people can't afford meals, or Thanksgiving?  How about are you hearing about some of the people have needs for Christmas because they can't afford necessities because YOUR DEMS in the city/county/plex are STEALING from them to give to their millionaire political cronies downtown?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
