In the past years the Guyanese community in New York City was heavily courted to move to Schenectady. The goal was to bring back people in to the City of Schenectady and put back rundown houses back on to the tax roll. The Guyanese Initiative was highly and very successful. The Mayor at the time was Al Jurczynski a Republican to whom today remains very popular within the Guyanese community. Since then under the Democrats Stratton and McCarthy the Guyanese community in Schenectady has suffered from economic growth stagnation. The Guyanese has been the number one target and revenue stream for the City of Schenectady building codes enforcement. McCarthy has made it his mission to repeal and send back the Guyanese to NYC from Schenectady with his anti-absentee landlord policy. His message is working and has scared off other Guyanese from coming to Schenectady to settle. Now the City of Schenectady has 1,200 properties up for foreclosure the true reason behind the foreclosures is high taxation, fees and stricter government regulation which is causing the economic growth stagnation. The City of Schenectady under ten years of Stratton and McCarthy's rule has watched the surplus tax rolls inherited from their predecessor Jurczynski fade and depleted. The direct cause of depletion is from government mismanagement with prolonged excessive spending with increased fees and taxes all at hands of the Democrats Stratton and McCarthy. If you can’t beat them join them approach is what a few Guyanese living in Schenectady decided to do in forming  a not for profit group called the Guyanese American Association of Schenectady headed by Democrats Philip Fields and John Mootooveren. Both men represent the status quo in Schenectady for all Guyanese. Which equals to the further declining of home values, decaying of neighborhoods, repetitive years of taxes and fees increases with excessive spending and big giveaway of tax payer’s dollars to The Galesi Group all at the expense of the Guyanese property tax payer’s living in Schenectady. In return The Galesi group is a major campaign contributor to the Democratic Party in Schenectady County. Both men were endorsed and are beholden by special interest labor unions to preserve City and County employee’s jobs. It is inevitable that City and County employee jobs will have to be eliminated to provide significant tax cuts to property tax payers and to the looming budget deficits that they both will face down the road. How will this affect their decisions to govern effectively to balancing and making cuts to the budget and bringing real tax cuts to property tax payers? Are they going to be rubber stamp Democrats that are followers and not leaders? Philip Fields and John Mootooveren are far from change in fact rightfully so they are the future of the Democratic Party in Schenectady. John Mootooveren impressive win for City Council and poll numbers has put him in the forefront to replace McCarthy for Mayor. Philip Fields dominating long standing career on the Schenectady County Legislature has put him in contention for State wide office.  It is a great day for Guyanese living in Schenectady to celebrate or is it time to worry? The Guyanese in Schenectady finally has representation now what causes will these men represent their Party or their fellow Countrymen? What political price will the Guyanese living in Schenectady have to pay for their leaders missteps? Sadly to say the price has already been paid. Can both Fields and Mootooveren turn the tide by breaking away from and shifting the Democratic policies that are hurting Guyanese living in Schenectady? This is a great opportunity for both men to reverse the current trend in the Democratic Party policies by making history and a great difference in the lives of Guyanese living in Schenectady. Many questions left unanswered and the results remain to be seen if they are willing to do so for the benefit of the Guyanese living in Schenectady. If they don’t make any real changes in the lives of Guyanese living in Schenectady they will for sure lose support and watch their personal hopes and aspirations for higher political office fade very quickly. We must remember that the most progressive years experiencing rapid economic development and growth for the Guyanese community living in Schenectady was under Republican Al Jurczynski, fast forward to today and not so anymore.

First off it's nice to see these people both getting courted by and becoming part of the political process in Schenectady. Their addition to the city has in my opinion been the best thing to happen in Schenectady since GE's expansion in the 50's. Whatever their political persuasion I hope they continue to increase their representation in the community as they are good neighbors and good people as far as I can see.

let's hope they don't get redlined into servitude to keep the status quo......mont pleasant and the hill are good examples of

They are truly some of the nicest folks. (the ones that we've met)
I too hope they do not get caught up in all the political bullcrap and become pawns for the greedy politicians.

Don't let the numbers fool you about Mr. John Mootooveren and Mr. Philip Fields for that point.  I had just got out the voting booth on Tuesday when I received a Forwarded text message from an unknown number.  The message said "Please don't forget to vote today for John Mootooveren and Philip Feilds ONLY please".  When I texted back asking who they were they would not tell me.    Someone said this is called "Bullet Voting".  If this "Working Together Works" tactic is used I imagine it probably hurt Erikson and Porterfields vote counts.

I can't imagine that Fields name got on the text without permission.  Is this how they run things at the county?  Pretty low class if you ask me.

John Mootooveren .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .     4,155   21.29
Carl E. Erikson, II .  .  .  .  .  .  .     3,756   19.25
Marion Porterfield  .  .  .  .  .  .  .     3,579   18.34

So after reading the 1st posting, what I'm getting is that Mr Mootooveren's priority should be to his fellow countrymen's pockets?

I agree with Buck. I'm on a laptop right now instead of my regular system (22" screens X2) right now, and it was annoying.
I wouldn't even attempt it on my smart phone.

That being said, I hope Firefox becomes an active member on this board.

What I understand is that they are protected by the gazette when they lie about their jobs, and the story will only get out AFTER ELECTION DAY!     But if he were a repub then not so much. We would all have known he is a liar BEFORE!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
