Put politics aside - and in real life, tell me your grocery, fuel, heating and taxes only went up 1.5% last year ...

Guaranteed, you will be amazed at the REAL cost of living increases, every year

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

1.5% is the average Cost Of Living Increase.  Take a look at past years and you'll see that this
the last decade hasn't been that bad:
1968     4.2
1969     5.5
1970     5.7
1971     4.4
1972     3.2
1973     6.2
1974     11.0
1975     9.1
1976     5.8
1977     6.5
1978     7.6
1979  11.3
1980 13.5
1981  10.3
1982     6.2
1983     3.2
1984     4.3

In agreement with Harry...inflation are "government" numbers and do not reflect real life.
Compare prices of normal items you purchase in a grocery store, 2011 to 2014...milk,
bread, cheese, soda, anything...you will see they have increased beyond the published Government numbers.
In addition, the formula does not allow for circumstances and make needed adjustments.
One example is price of Pork...because of disease issue, just in last few months, pork has risen $1.00+/lb.

Also, let's not lose site of the base used for SSI that is adjusted by COLA....it's reported income.
If increase by employer did not keep up with rate of inflation (which is unfortunately the norm),
then a person receiving SS starts out behind the 8-ball from the get go.

The COLA numbers are a reflection of the AVERAGE Inflation...
Housing has decreased by huge margins, so if you bought a home, you got a deal compared to
pre Bush Economic Meltdown.  All our COLA was based on that AVERAGE.
Natural Gas is a bargain compared to fuel oil or propane... so if you heat with Natural gas, you got
a break on that AVERAGE.  If you heat with oil or propane, you got screwed by the AVERAGE.

It's not just a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk, it's all prices combined and averaged.

If you took out a loan, you benefited from low interest rates...
If you rely on CD's for income, you got slammed by low interest rates.
Again... it's the average.

For last 15 years, annual increases at my company were 1.5-2%.
2 years in a row we were required to take 10 unpaid days and our
increases were delayed for 3 years.  (PS-Not the Union guys though!!!!!!!!)
All the averages in the world do not make up for what was lost,
what we would have invested, what we would have earned....like I said, we will never catch-up!

there is no such thing as 'catching up'...the system is set and people fall where they fall in the cast....

it's all about the virtual value placed on the fiat/borrowing/taxes

FIRE THEIR A$$ES.....but to say the 'poor' are 'poorer' because they got a raise isn't even close to the big iceberg...
and to say that raising the minimum wage will fix the big iceberg is a political faux pas and not even close to the truth of the
matter......

VIRTUAL VALUE

COLA's always follow inflation... everyone with a COLA is playing catch up.

COLA follows CPI, the CPI formula has changed many times over the decades.  The current CPI doesn't measure substitution into the formula.  For instance, if you are accustomed to monthly skiing trips to Gore Mt or Killington Mt at $70+ a lift ticket, and now you can't afford it, BUT...You can afford a $35 lift ticket at Maple Ski Ridge, in the eyes of government CPI, your substitution means have not been affected by inflation-you can still afford to ski.

Attention, All Right Wingers...
Listen to this nun, Sister Simone Campbell before you make up your mind
that you are against the minimum wage.  She may change your mind and
you may end up supporting the minimum wage.

If you don't like minimum wage find another job that will pay more for your hard work and talents. Minimum wage is there for a reason and that is because most of the jobs are only worth that period, it is a incentive to work and try harder to better ones self.

Either Henry didn't watch the video, or he did it with a closed mind.   Pity, he may have
learned something.

What should I have learned? that a profitable business should not be profitable, or pass the cost to consumers? I posted a video before about this very thing, everyone they interviewed wanted better pay for the employees at WalMart, that is until they were asked if they would pay more for their products or donate a percentage of their bill to give to the workers, guess what their attitudes changed quickly.
