By Steven CookPolice: Man nabbed with 10 pounds of pot in Rotterdam
ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam police say a Troy man was carrying nearly 10 pounds of marijuana when they arrested him Thursday evening.

Joseph Morgalis, 32, of 9 Plum Ave., was pulled over by police on Aster Street as part of an operation police worked on with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. postal inspectors.

In all, police said, the marijuana seized weighed in at 9.94 pounds. They said it was high-grade material with an estimated street value of $35,000.

Rotterdam police spokesman Lt. Michael Brown said it was one of the larger marijuana cases his department has been involved in.

He declined to say where they believe the marijuana came from or how it got here. But officers were specifically looking for Morgalis on Thursday evening, knowing he was in possession of a large amount of marijuana, Brown said.

Morgalis was arrested peacefully, he said. “There was no issue with the stop. We knew the package was in the car.”

Brown said authorities are still looking into whether Morgalis was receiving other shipments of marijuana and, if so, for how long.

He faces one count of second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. He was arraigned Thursday night before Town Justice Ken Litz and held on $25,000 bail.

He was released Friday after posting bond, jail officials said.

Good thing they concentrated on this, that much marijuana, he might have thrown it off an overpass and killed somebody with it.

Heroin is at an all time high supply, and cheap too, from what I hear. It's funny how the underground commodity market works.

The undercover operations cost us $100,000.00

Incarceration will cost us another $140,000.00 per year.

Tax guzzling heroes.

Spending millions enforcing bad laws is not public service.

It is thievery.

The only crime committed here is that this guy was going to sell it and not pay taxes on it!!!....PERIOD!!!

Somebody's gotta pay the farmer, packaging, wholesaler, retailer and gas surcharge. = taxes

They call it the war on drugs when in all actuality the cops have become the water boys for the IRS!
