I got a mailer with coupons today, for a laundromat opening along Van Vranken Avenue. It looks like the people who run the chinese food place have expanded. They have evidently sunk a lot of money into the place. They are one of the "immigrant businesses" the Gazette claimed had turned the area around. The area isn't turned around, but these people are doing pretty well, apparently. It was their delivery man who almost got robbed over at Yates, but some of the people there intervened. I've noticed in other areas that various immigrants are trying to open some legit businesses, but it must be quite hard being as our high-crime areas are also high-tax areas.

The restaurant directly across from city hall is Now Open, according to a banner on the front. That place goes in and out of business frequently, doesn't it? There was a laundromat set to open a short distance from there, but it never did. Downtown development does not seem to spur new supporting businesses.

the Chinese immigrants would rather take their chances with thugs rather than the commie govt

A lesson for Box and J.O. Box that goes over their heads

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

A lesson for Graham, (but I imagine it will go right over his head)... Anyone, immigrant or not can move
into an inner city location and start a business.  The risk is the high crime neighborhood, but the gain
is an often 'captive customer'.  Most downtown locations don't have a traditional supermarket.  A
neighborhood grocery store can do well even though their prices are higher than the Supermarkets
because there is little competition and many city residents are within walking distance from their shop.
For them, a trip to the supermarket is a long walk or a buss or taxi ride.
A downtown convenience store is a target for crime, but also place to buy cigarettes, beer, bread, milk
coffee, cold medicine at very extended hours.

Immigrants in many cities can't compete against the burbs markets but they can make a living downtown
under these conditions.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I think GB is aware of all that. My point is the city is putting all this money into downtown, instead of helping the businesses working hard for their money in neighborhoods like Central State Street and the Northside. Why should people have to risk death to make a go of it in Schenectady? Downtown isn't paying off on our "investments", it is hurting the poor people. It is communism, not in theory, but the way it works in real life, the favored few on the inside living off the rest. The only jobs "created" by the downtown crowd are their own overpaid positions.

Have you noticed that if 'sarcasm' were automatically deleted from everyone's posts...
Graham wouldn't be able to post a single word!

If you read his posts, painful as that may be, he really seldom has anything to say.
Graham is all bluster but no substance!

People who took a month to write one term paper... have little words left to use.

Here's a quote for Graham to consider before his next post:
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."
