criminals (and this is a pre-crime statement) DON'T STAND IN LINE FOR BACKGROUND CHECKS.....

a person with mental health issues MIGHT stand in line or they might be OK for many years passing all the background
checks and then BANG, seems they are 'falling down'.....

I'm all for a safety class like those for big game hunting....but a background check is UN-AMERICAN and makes criminals for
nothing....

example: NYS does background checks for nurse aides, the facility has access to certain records and one is bouncing a check
which is a form of fraud, they can and do refuse to hire...same with some DWI's....this is wrong.

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

LOL...I thought the picture of Gabbi shooting a gun was funny as hell for a couple of reasons...

1) You know that automatic she was firing had more than 7 rounds in it.

2) You know it wasn't done in NYS because A) it would have taken her about 50 years to get a pistol permit and B) she would have been denied said permit because she would be deemed 'mentally unfit/disabled' because of her head injury.

On a side note: Volvos are awesome cars. They hardly ever rust out (warranty against rust for at least 15 years) because the body is made of galvanized steel. The 5cyl engines are basically bulletproof and you can modify the crap out of them without them blowing up in a year. Airbags ,airbags, airbags! The new Volvos are full of them!

Even my 1995 850 T-5R has front and side airbags as well as 3 points restraints for all passengers, including the rear seat middle.

Quoted from exit3
Government shouldn't be afraid of "the people"  if government is afraid of "the people" then there is something wrong with what government is doing

why is our current government so afraid of gun owners? - the founders of our country weren't afraid of gun owners  - they enlisted them to form our nation  - this is a fundamental cornerstone this country was founded on

as for this chic  - she should be raising $$$$ for mental health facilities - not background checks

Giffords IS a gun owner.  She also a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment.  Gabby is no flaming
liberal nor is she anti gun.

Check out her website:

Go exit3. Money for mental health facilities would have helped save a lot of lives. This woman is just bothering people, not helping. "Responsible Solutions"? If you have to call your group by a euphemism, you must be hiding something.

One of my friends has a really old Volvo, well over 200,000 miles on it, they just keep going.

So madam x, do you disagree with universal background checks on gun sales?
Most Americans and the vast majority of the NRA agree with background checks for all weapons
sales.

At many gun shows, you don't need a background check to buy a gun.  If your address is an insane
asylum, and you've been diagnosed as a psychopath, which would show up on a background check,
all you would need is the money to purchase any gun.  Just walk into the gun show, put down the $$$
and walk out with an assault rifle.

Giffords is working to close the Gun Show background check loophole that exists in many states.

I disagree with putting on a show for the cameras that conveniently distracts from the very, very serious issues of a)how we treat the seriously insane;and b) the real gun violence issue, the young black people in our cities being shot with illegal handguns, every single day. Our good for nothing community organizer of a President isn't going to do a damn thing about these issues which are life-and-death to his most ardent, and most desperate, supporters. The latest young man to fly over my house in a helicopter, do you think the president has even heard about that? Why not? Why is Ms. Gifford more important than he is?

Nice Rant!  There... Feel better?

Giffords is working to find ways to prevent gun violence.
If you support gun violence, then by all means oppose her.

What happens in your neighborhood is important... maybe more important than Giffords gun show photo op...
or more important that the shape of the Schenectady/Scotia bridge, or the score at a local high school
baseball game.

Crime in your neighborhood is important... but it has nothing to do with Giffords, a bridge or school sports.
They are separate issues.  Ranting about crime in your neighborhood has nothing to do with the others.

Yes, it does, Box, you are dense. The woman is allegedly doing something about gun violence. But I have gun violence in my city, all the time, and her standing around at a gun show does NOTHING AT ALL to fix the problems in my city. Why didn't she come here? Why don't any of the politicians come here?
Gun violence is a separate issue from gun violence? For Heaven's sake! Maybe we can expand background checks at gun shows and the young men won't kill each other with illegal handguns anymore.

Speaking of "DENSE"!!!

Giffords is working for Federal Legislation to close loopholes for background checks at gun shows.

If guns used in your neighborhood were originally purchased at a gun show with out a background
check... THEN SHE IS WORKING FOR YOU!!!

Giffords is doing what she cant to prevent gun violence.  If you want to do the same, then by all
means DO SO.  Ranting on a message board won't help.  But a public display of concerned citizens
in your neighborhood to the Mayor, the Governor, The President, might help.

If you want to help... THEN HELP.  If not, why condemn Giffords for trying to help?  You can disagree
with her methods, but she is doing something... something more likely to succeed than typing on
a message board.

There has been background checks for firearms at gun shows in NY for years, shootings in our neighborhoods continue. The Safe Act made private sales illegal without background checks, shootings in our neighborhoods continue. Criminals don't obey the laws and they never will, these "good gun laws" that box brings up only effect law abiding citizens. While the criminal goes to any corner to buy a gun you now have to jump through hoops to defend yourself. While the criminals have whatever capacity they want, you are now limited if you follow the new laws. The government is making it easier for you to become a victim of crimes while the criminals rub their hands together.

So lets have FEDERAL UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS,  that check ALL GUNS at ALL GUNSHOWS.

Why would that law threaten you?
It would help keep guns from being purchased in other states and used in ny state even in your community.

Guns from out-of-state make up the grand majority of city crimes

90% of all guns used in NY city crimes in 2011 came from out-of-state

You made my point criminals do not obey the law, there will still be a black market on guns that could not be stopped. Instead you want the only people to jump through hoops is the law abiding citizen. As I said I don't mind background checks, my problem is that is not where you wish to stop, you want the people who even pass the background checks to then be limited on what they could own. You don't give a fck about the crime you are just going after the guns themselves, you don't live where me and Madam does, you can sleep peacefully in your nice little area without having to hear shots or countless helicopters and sirens. Buy a house on Hamilton Hill or Harbor Hill and tell me if you feel safe to walk down the street a night alone without carrying some form of protection.

I wouldn't feel safe, and I would be heavily armed if I lived in that area.  The crime in that area should not
be allowed to flourish and continue.

The Police are here to Protect and Serve... that neighborhood is a prime example of the police either
being unwilling or unable to handle the problem.

Would you all support more tax dollars to concentrate a force on that neighborhood?  Would you
support more tax dollars to hire more cops to be on patrol only in that neighborhood??

I do, I don't support the government being involved on private sales though, I made that point many of times. Its not the governments business if I sell a gun to a life long friend or relative.
