SCHENECTADY -- A city man was arrested Friday after he allegedly tried to rob the Kentucky Fried Chicken at 109 State St.
Andrew J. Evans, 42, pointed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun at an employee and demanded money, police say. It was not clear if he got away with any money. Evans was arrested after the city's animal control officer, Cindy Bialobzeski, identified him a few streets away using the description given to police. Evans was allegedly in possession of the weapon used in the crime, which turned out to be a pellet gun. Evans was charged with attempt to commit robbery in the second degree, a felony; menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, also a misdemeanor. Evans was arraigned on the charges with sent to county jail.

Police hunt for man who robbed cafe at Proctors SCHENECTADY — Police are looking for a man who robbed the cafe at Proctors on Wednesday night. A man walked into Apostrophe just before 10 p.m., threatened the clerk and demanded money, according to authorities. He fl ed on foot with an undetermined amount of money, according to police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken. No one was injured.

Teenager charged in downtown store robbery SCHENECTADY — A local teen, accused of taking an expensive pair of shoes by punching the owner of the shoes twice at a downtown store, was arrested Tuesday after a police foot chase, authorities said. Police caught up with Jamaul Tention, 17, of Hilderbrandt Avenue, shortly after the robbery, arresting him at the corner of Union Street and Seward Place, according to papers filed in court. Tention is accused of punching the owner of a pair of Nike Jordan Retro shoes in the head twice, just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The incident was reported at Lee’s Four Seasons, at 428 State St. The shoes were valued at $150. Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Something about the way the crime gets reported, first, they report incidents now as being downtown sometimes when they aren't, like on Eastern, theway everything that happened in Schenectady used to be reported as being on Hamilton Hill. I think the unnecessary added "local color" in the reporting has unintended consequences. This is hard to explain, but for years, the local media went out of their way to tie in all crime with Schenectady, sensationalizing and exaggerating for ratings. That gave people an unfounded fear of the place, and that really hurt our city. Then you got the pushback, and trying to counter what they say is people's "perception" of crime, we have people like Ray Gillen trying to cover it up, and we also see the media editorializing every time something happens. You want to write an actual editorial, fine, but what are supposed to be straight news articles are full of propaganda, blather, sophistry, and hot air. It is not necessary or helpful to add all this "is Schenectady safe or not?" stuff to every damn report. It does not inform or clarify, it just sensationalizes and distorts. For example, last year I met someone from out of town, here in Schenectady, on business. One of the first things he asked me was where Hamilton Hill was. People who live well away from here, who never have any business here, who will never have any reason to step foot here, they all have opinions as to how safe or unsafe the various parts of Schenectady are. They see this stuff in the papers and they think they know something about it. In short, crime should be reported, people look at newspapers to be informed, that's why the papers exist, but I wish that when it comes to Schenectady, they could just bring themselves to do straight reporting, without all the narrative or attempts at "balance". Crime is crime, people will make up their own minds as to what it means to them, we don't need "guidance" as to what to think from people like Ray Gillen. Like they used to say on Dragnet, "just the facts", please.

guilty until proven innocent is the current system.....
my question is.....WHY do these folks do what they do....no land? no food? no water? no money?....boredom?
BOOT THEIR A$$E$ OUT OF THE CITY ONTO A PIECE OF LAND THEY HAVE TO WORK TO FEED/CLOTHE/HOUSE THEMSELVES....
they won't be bored they won't complain they didn't get enough government food they won't envy what others have(maybe, out of sight out of mind) they might die because they can't survive(oh well)
