Lying and hiding vital information from the public to give the impression the city is
somehow safe is disgusting
.

Who "lied" and who "hid vital information from the public"?

No, Box, I can't imagine that, because I don't know how you go from suppressing the news to reporting minor happenings on the front page, and act like it's an either/or choice. You are beginning to sound like DVOR. Are you really suggesting that the papers either have to write about the tiniest matters on page one, or they have no choice but to cover up major events? If not, why are you attempting to mock my concern for what goes on in my city, that can have a major impact on people I care about? Freedom of the press is one of the important freedoms that are our birthright as Americans. When the papers don't bother to do their job in supporting that function, when they omit information, whether their intent is to conceal, they are just being lazy, or they need the space to run a story about twerking, we Americans are worse off for it.
Some people, maybe you could be one of them, might be happier someplace like Cuba. You don't get to know about anything, it is illegal to even think opinions the government doesn't want you to, and everybody is entitled to the same lousy health care.

I live in a safer community than Schenectady but we do have murders, rape and violent crime.  Most
major crimes are reported in the local press, but less serious crimes are often not covered.
It's up to the local press what they want to print.

Um... Cuba??? Really???
How does Cuba come in to whether the Gazette prints all crime in the city???

So armed robbery and gang assaults are not major crimes to you? You're just another suck a** who likes to talk but wouldn't dare step up and buy a property in the city. And Madam X is correct you are sounding just like DVOR

Somebody kept the information about the break-ins off Van Vranken hidden for quite some time. The incident just mentioned, on Lexington, that hasn'tbeen exposed. Remember when the Domino's manager walked right into the deathtrap at Yates Village? I think Henry might consider that hiding vital information.
The incident at the Bowtie, it got reported as a cell phone theft. Somebody, somewhere, lied to somebody for that to have happened. That's okay, it wasn't their little girl who got punched in the face and robbed, and then her father got criticized in that rag of a paper. Shhh. OMG, what if the Bowtie goes out of business? Waaah. They are barely scraping by! This isn't good for Schenectady! Damn that father, he should have let the non-existent security at the theater handle it!
As an aside, all the @#&!! types whining about the poor Bowtie, they can't afford to properly staff the place and make a profit, any business that gets tax breaks and still shortchanges the customers should go out of business. How is it that they are barely scraping by in Schenectady, and they (the chain) can open a new theater in Saratoga? Maybe they don't give enough support to the franchisees? Anyway, it doesn't matter who argues what, Crossgates is worse, waaah, bad dad, don't put crime in the paper, the theater is on the way out.

IMO, armed robbery and gang assaults ARE serious crimes.  Is every helicopter an armed robbery??? Is
every ambulance a gang assault???
Of course not.

Why not contact the Gazette and ask them their policy about printing local crime?
Why not call the city police and ask them if they are "Hiding" or "covering up" crime in
the city?
Or...
You all can go on complaining on a message board!

"It's up to the local press what they want to print". Really? I always thought that the press wasn't supposed to be in bed with a political party, or any of the quasi-governmental big money interests.

Box it is already out, people here already know crimes are being swept under the rug. Now with these 2 recent crimes coming out more people are asking questions, radio shows are now talking about it and victims are coming forward wondering why nothing is being done.

Does the Gazette have a policy of protecting only Democrats in the city govt?

Does the Gazette have any policy as to which crimes are covered in their paper???

Would the Gazette still cover the same crimes if there were a Republican City Govt???

The paper has limited space and is in business of selling papers.  (According to many posts here,
the Gazette doesn't make much money selling subscriptions from this crowd.)

Why not ask the source?  Why not ask the Gazette why these stories are not in their paper???

BTW, I have talked to reporters and editors at the Gazette. It is a waste of time. If every helicopter is not an emergency, why are we paying for all these non-emergency flights? Or do these helicopters have private owners? Every siren is not an emergency, I went through that, a single siren, no, multiple EMERGENCY vehicles, yes, it damn well better be an emergency, and I would like to know what that emergency is. It is my home, my money, my friends and neighbors.
As for COMPLAINING on a blog, I mainly log on and post here to compare information, and to share information. What are you doing here? We already know that the local "newspaper" does not provide the news we need to know about, it is only prudent to seek out other sources of information. Look at Vince Riggi, working hard to cut through all the lies and omissions and get at the truth. I support him. I've already explained in painstaking detail, why this matters, but I can see that it is going right over your head.

You can get a scanner or listen to police calls online.  Then you'd know in real time what is going on and
you could report when the Gazette is "in bed with local govt".

My guess... The Gazette sells just as many papers if they report every fender bender and bar scuffle
than if they didn't print them... so they have no incentive to spend dollars on a non profitable venture.

If enough Schdy citizens complained to the Gazette (instead of complaining on a message board)
the paper might recognize that they have a problem.

Don't waste your time Madam, box doesn't live in the city nor does he have any interest in the city. He doesn't care what happens here as it doesn't effect him, it the same attitude we see with so many employees of this city.

It is all up to the press to tell you what you need to know. They are the "official" source of info and anything else is not certified as journalism by the government, therefor it should be silenced.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I do subscribe to the Gazette online.  I find the Gazette lacking in many areas but most local or even
regional papers are no better.

The days of local reporting are gone, but I think that there is a market for a local product that could
fill this niche, and it likely would come from an online very local group who is interested in the everyday
life of the city.

Bichin on a message board won't help.  But for those who really want to change things, I suggest that
someone who cares can possibly contact the local police for a daily or weekly crime summary.
