"Imagine if you had a Republican president and a Democratic speaker, and the Democratic speaker said, well, we're not going to pass the debt ceiling unless we raise corporate taxes by 40% or unless we pass background checks on guns or whatever other list of agenda items Democrats were interested in. Does anybody actually think that we would be hearing from Republicans that that was acceptable behavior?"
-- President Obama, quoted by the Washington Post. |

imagine if we really knew the true value of our $$ and the value of our taxes paid.....the public isn't interested in knowing, just getting their needs met....just like a toddler who is hungry doesn't know the difference between a cookie and a carrot just as long as it eats it doesn't care about the nutritional value...... |

If they were paid by the hour you could. But as of right at this moment, the government is shut down. Non-critical workers are at home relaxing with their families and Obama and his Obamabots are out on the links hitting balls. |

The Democratic Caucus in Congress has to be forced to deal with the out of control rise in the debt and federal spending. I'd rather have the government shut down NOW -- so that they are forced to deal with the issue than to wait a few years when we become like Greece or some other indebted banana-boat republic. |

Yep, the democrat party in Schenectady has to be FORCED to deal with the out of control rise in the debt and city andf county spending. I'd rather have the city and county shut down NOW -- so hat they are forced to deal with the issues (falling tax base, tax exemptions for their rich cronies downtown, falling property values, falling home sales, falling home sale prices, eliminating essential services, increasing taxes, spending money on UNNECESSARY FANCY lighting while the northern part of Erie Blvd is full of potholes, spending UNNECESSARY on a gold ceiling, and rising taxes--than to wait a few years when we become like Detroit or soe other indebted banana-boat republic. |

Agree....but this again isn't a dem or rep issue.....it is the COLLECTIVE GOVERNMENT both at the federal level and the local level (the global level) that is responsible for the mess we are in....and it has been decades in the making!! The COLLECTIVE GOVERNMENT is and has been for decades creating a 'new system'. Our present system that is hanging on by a thread MUST fail/fall BEFORE the COLLECTIVE GOVERNMENT'S 'new global system' can be implemented 100%. The LAME STREAM CORPORATE MEDIA, (including local media) will tell you otherwise....and it's all a lie! |

I don't understand how DVOR can comprehend the issue on a national level, yet supports the same actions on the local level. We have state issued tax caps, that the council can merely ignore and vote to override it. Local spending is limitless. Federal is where he draws the line. |

**UPDATE**
As of 9am, the government has reopened.
The point of this was to show that the government 'shuts down' every weekend. |

Govt Shutdown Cost Taxpayers $$$Billions
"A looming government shutdown could actually cost U.S. taxpayers money. A lot of money.
According to the Office of Management and Budget, the two shutdowns in 1995 and 1996 cost taxpayers $1.4 billion combined. Adjust for inflation and you've got $2 billion in today's dollars.
Those two shutdowns lasted a total of 27 days, but there's no telling how long the government could be shuttered this time around if Congress fails to act by Monday at midnight. Even shorter shutdowns have proven successful at draining government funds." |
