I would welcome that.

However I think it is extraordinarily unlikely.

And again we're only talking about a proposal, nothing to celebrate just yet.

Meanwhile, something far more tangible..

Same old story, different day, how many companies have said they will build in Schenectady and then found a better city to build when they see the area. I'll believe it when it happens.

These stories always come out around October, right before the election.  It's the same formula every year.  Float some story about some potential business opening in Schenectady with an over exaggeration of jobs created or investment made.  The articles never examine how much financial burden the "tax breaks" put on the rest if the property owners.
If it was an honest story, it should read:

'The company is considering Schenectady because they will save $100,000 in tax breaks over 5 years, and that loss in tax revenue will be made up by spreading the cost to all the property owners across Schenectady County'.

If the studio pays its fair share in taxes, I'm all for it...
If it's nothing more than another Proctors and Villa Italia tax giveaway, I'd rather have it not come at all.
Because if it does, it's just another entity that benefits the owners, the people from out of town, and ignores the residents of the city.
We will still have high taxes, closed pools, closed bridges, dilapidated parks, and war-zone neighborhoods.

The "first"  ???????????

Wow, DV, what about the many stories "of great news" in Schenectady that you have been babbling about for the past several years?

Suffering from dementia?   Early alzheimers?    Or what?

Or is this an admission that all the past "great news" items are PROVEN FAILURES?????????

And DV, why did you AVOID posting on the thread that had already been started about the studio?????  What was the purpose of starting another one?

Many who have seen The Place Beyond the Pines have said it does not reflect well on our city...  That it makes the city look really really bad.

My previous post on another thread:
No shortage of people willing to live in Schenectady, just not to pay for it. Or work. No shortage of people willing to work here, and get paid by the city, just not to live here and pay taxes here. No shortage of people willing to open a business here, just not if they have to pay taxes. No shortage of people who don't want to live here and pay the taxes any more. People who live here and are trying to pay the taxes getting cast out in the street. My God.

Go and tell the people kicked out of their home of 38 years, what good news this this. Tell them, to their faces. Then go clean the scribbles off the wall on the new bridge.

If a film studio is ever going to happen here's the scoop...

1) Gillen will say there are an 'anticipated' amount of jobs coming to the area. Whatever number he predicts, cut it by 3/4ths.

2) Film is a Proctors thing meaning that some Federal or State grant will be funding the whole project.

3) Some million dollar building in Downtown will be required for such a use. 'Moving' /'facade'/'improvement' taxpayer-supplied-Plex-grants will follow along with complete property and school tax exemptions.

4) This project will cost the taxpayers more than it could ever bring into the City and County and my taxes will increase by another 1/3rd to keep this leech-sucking-art-exempt-albatross afloat.

Yeah, get some stupid UNNECESSARY film studio here paid for with taxpayer money and result in more mponey going to King Philip.

Yes, because Philip Morris has been UNNCESSFUL tryiing to sell his house, he is mortgaged to the nth degree on the house--about $100,000 more than the purchase price, a mortgage on it which is $100,000 more than what he could sell it for.

Not to mention the massively high taxes.

So bad in the city that Morris fled the city!

And now he's so deep in debt he needs the taxpayers to cover his bills.  He couldn't sell his house in the city, no one even renting it, so look for the taxpayers to cover the bills.

They are not building this to produce just one movie.  This project proposes several sound stages.  So we are talking about the possibility for this facility being used to film a number of projects, movies and t.v. shows, simultaneously.

And this proposal is just the first of a number of exciting, new projects coming to Schenectady in the very near future.  So, I guess the nayboob scum will just have to sit in the corner and cry over all the GREAT THINGS happening, and the fact that all they can do is spend their miserable lives whining, carping and complaining like the pathetic fools that they are.

THE RENAISSANCE CONTINUES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
