Why do I live here?

  It's About time! Fits Better! Comercially! Evens Sounds Attractive! Less Dollars for NASA?

It wouldn't be difficult to be in favor of this project if they paid for it themselves.

The local DEM leaders HAVE NOT LEARNED.   Giving out  the taxpayers' money for all this artsy stuff is NOT helping the city and county.  NOT AT ALL.   And the EVIDENCE has proven that spending money on artsy stuff causes the tax base to drop, property values to fall, home sales and home sale prices to fall, essential services to be cut, and tax BILLS to rise.

Someone on this board recently posted to "remind" us about tax money going to Global.  Sure, I was not in favor of that, I still think it was wrong, HOWEVER, that could be considered a wise investment as that area IS seeing a return.  Home values rising, tax base increasing, home sales and prices rising.  That money is being good paying jobs.  And the job holders can buy homes up there.   The jobs in the artsy stuff in Schenectady are NOT good paying jobs, they are NOT careers and those who have those jobs still can barely pay their rent and must rely on government subsidy.  

So not only to the DEMS STEAL from the financially struggling locally to give handouts to the millionaire developers/business owners, who are involved in all these businesses, the taxpayers then ALSO have to subsidize the employeess of the downtown businesses because they are virtually all low wage/minimum wage jobs.


And now, after 10 yeas of this building downtown under the DEMS, we STILL do not have stores to shop at!

  Ya You're Prob right..    I think the Commercial compared to residential made me jump! I Don't see the need for more housing over there.

leggs9966, I agree with you that a studio is an improvement over the ridiculously stupid idea of more housing way the heck over there. I don't blame you for getting excited at first glance. It's like, just not quite so awful, that's all.
It literally makes me sick, the way they push this propaganda in the paper. The governor, who already moved jobs out of Schenectady, gives us this in return, a chance to take up scarce industrial property with some flimsy can't make ends meet business-that-isn't-quite-a-business, and we jump at it? We HAD a real studio in Schenectady County, remember? Any real jobs at this thing will be held by outsiders who will move here, and by here I do not mean the city. And how likely is it they will spend downtown, when they are closer to Scotia, and there is nowhere to shop downtown anyway?
