If you compare Downtown Schenectady in the late 1990's and early 2000's when it was a pathetic-looking, dirty and spiraling downward under Jurzynski and the County GOP and Downtown Schenectady today under the leadership of Brian Stratton and Gary McCarthy and the County Democrats --- it is like comparing bombed out East  Berlin in the late 1940's with a modern, bustling thriving city.  Downtown Schenectady is growing, changing, becoming better every day ---- it is definitely in a Renaissance.

Proctor's is a huge PART of the Renaissance -- but not the only part.  The newly spruced up Erie Boulevard will launch a series of new economic development projects along the Erie Corridor.   Everything is coming up roses for Schenectady -- the RENAISSANCE CITY.

YUP......GE/union moved out and the decline started. It would have ended up a ghost town be it rep or dem in control. But let us not forget that even tho downtown(a few blocks) looked like a ghost town, the rest of the city and it's residence were still surviving. Taxes were lower, crime was less, schools were better and there were little shuttered buildings.Jurzinski's sin was going to nyc and offering them all kinds of tax incentives, low housing...blah blah blah!! THAT was the beginning of the end of SCUMnectady! The slumlords flocked here like flies on sh!t........the dems then took the balland ran with it!!

.......and of course the unions are a force that CLEARLY needs to be reckoned with. however dem nor rep has the balls to address that issue!

Downtown still had businesses before metroplex. There aren't any more now, really. If you don't count the subsidized ones, there is less business downtown. Better a ghost town than a ghost city, which is what China built to give the impression that they were booming when they weren't. That's all downtown is now, a bunch of shiny facades paid for with stolen money.
Terms like "economic development" get thrown around, people have been buying into that crap for the last 40 years, they repeat it as if they know something, it is a very complex subject and even if the "experts" know so much, why didn't they warn us what was happening with the mortgage market? This isn't the first time that happened.
As far as sprucing up Erie Boulevard and making it drivable, that should have been done anyway, with the money we paid for that to happen.
Somebody drive out to Jamestown, and come back and tell me how great it is there, thanks to having an amazing cultural wizard working his magic.
You know, there are all these cities thinking they are going to be saved through an "arts district" when money doesn't follow art, art follows money. How many paintings did Vincent Van Gogh sell? Anybody want to guess?
MC1 is stating verifiable facts. Notice nobody is disputing those facts, nobody. "Economic Development" is a scam. Not-for-profits are a good thing that got exploited by connected scammers, just like everything with "free money" does.

Poor little weenee.

His dems and plex and Proctors are causing non-stop reductions in the tax base.  They are causing property values to plummet.  They are causing home sales and home sale prices to fall.  Essential services are being reduced or eliminated (while spending on non-essential things is being increased).   People are fleeing the city.  Homes are being abandoned.   DV's buddies are not only stealing city residents' money but if the residents don't fork over their money (to give to the millionaires downtown), then DV's buddies take the residents' home away from them.  Taxes are going up up.

These statements are the TRUTH, they are FACT, and thety have been prove over and over again with EVIDENCE.

DV is such a coward he CLAIMS that he has us blocked, but we all know that's as big a lie as his claim tha the city is improving and is so wonderful.

He spews all kinds of nonsense babble over and over, make statements, but cannot provide one, NOT EVEN ONE teeny weeny shred of evidence of the statements he makes.

Since he cannot accept our challenge to him for him to produce evidence, he continues to be a cowardly cuckoo and PRETEND that he has us blocked and PRETENDS that he doesn't read our comments.

We should all REALLY block him so we don't have to read his fairy tales.

Notice he starts the name calling whenever he is asked for facts. Hey, dummy, it was in the paper, your beloved Gazetto, I believe there was an editorial as well, those are the people complaining about the bridge, the rest of us here just commented on that story. It was also in the paper, way back when the bridge was replaced the last time, people felt that the sidewalk was too narrow. People like you should not be commenting about anyone else's looks because a) you don't know what we look like; and b) I'm sure we all look better than you. I've seen pictures, I have just been too polite to comment on them because a person's attractiveness doesn't really give their opinion more validity, but you would do well to stop throwing stones from your glass house. Fool.

You are the fool.  #1) an letter to the editor is an OPINION not a fact,  #2) everyone is entitled to an opinion -- I (and many others) think the bridge looks fine and we are CONSTITUTIONALLY protected in our right to voice our opinion,  #3)  The 8 foot sidewalk on the west side is adequate for pedestrian traffic, which is what it was designed for.  The east side will have a wider path because it was intended all along to carry the bike route traffic.  #4) YOU were the one who stated that the sidewalk was too narrow to walk on thus YOU were the one who suggested that you were wider than the 8 foot wide sidewalk -- and quite honestly, I couldn't care less what you look like nor do I care what you think about me.  It is obvious you are a sourgrapes, constantly whining, negative type of person, and would NOT be the kind of person I would ever care to meet.

Um, fool, I stated that when the Western Gateway bridge was replaced before, people found the sidewalk too narrow. I did not mention the new sidewalk. Yes, everyone is entitled to her own opinion, yet it is you who made the statement that the bridge was fine, and the wall looked fine. That is YOUR opinion, the people mentioned in the paper and the editorial writer believe differently, that is THEIR opinion, and mine, as well. I know other people who came out of your class at Mont Pleasant with adequate reading comprehension skills, what happened to you?

When some kid accidentally rides off the unguarded edge of the sidewalk and gets crushed by a tractor trailer,
then let's hear you scream that it was the kid's fault for not being able to stay on the sidewalk.

Yep, 2 bikes could never bump each other or swerve to avoid pedestrians.

You couldn't even walk across that bridge on your best day, goat boy.

If you actually READ what I wrote before you go off on one of your foolish rants, you'd notice that I said EXCEPT for the lack a guardrail between the pedestrian sidewalk and the traffic lanes that I had no problem with the looks of the bridge.   You would then know that I was concerned for the situation of a pedestrian being able to accidentally (or otherwise) go from the sidewalk into the traffic lanes or for a vehicle to go accidentally (or otherwise) from the traffic lanes on the sidewalk.

As for your immature personal attacks.  It is obvious that you have not matured psychologically since you were in the 4th grade.   Furthermore, you obviously have no clue as to how far i am able to walk -- and DO walk.

PLease change the title of the thread to:

GOATS - 1st row seats available (DV only bought 4 seats- 2 for him, and one for each mommy)

...and now, how about that REMS? (who were first priority when the dems were running on boosting them but when they found out people didn't care and they are running unopposed- they dumped them so they could pad OT for the chief and his buds)

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The show Ghost has a more limited appeal and there is nothing wrong with that, not every show is going to be a blockbuster like Phantom of the Opera, but they build these things up in the local press every time as the answer to the economic woes of the universe, and truthfully musical theater is very iffy financially. I think that the group currently lobbying for tax breaks plants the articles. Newspapers shouldn't be susceptible to planted articles, but they are.

it's now one hour til showtime tonight (Wednesday)

If you are a couple, you can still get seats downstairs.   IN THE FIFTH ROW, CENTER!!!!!!!!!!

WHOO WHOO!   SHAKE THOSE POM POMS.   Proctors is doing oh so wonderful, people are coming from all over to the show.   So much so that there are so many empty seats.

A mom, dad, and two kids, or perhaps two couples going together.   You can sit together in the 10th row tonight, it's only one hour til show time.

How much will the taxpayers have to subsidize King Philip for because of lack of sold out show?

It's just one hour til showtime, Thursday afternoon.

King Phillip indicates "Limited" seats available.         LIES!    A single person (DV) can sit in the first row center.   Couples can get 5th row center.   Two couples can get 10th row center!

MANY MANY seats available

King Philip is not the genius he's cracked up to be. Proctor's, I've heard, is having financial problems. I think that's why a particular person went there from the city, to try to "fix" things.
When someone can explain to me how all the money generated by the "economic engine" (translation: black hole for our money) doesn't result in lower property taxes and/or restoration of basic services, I will quit talking about Proctor's.
