Prosecutors say a Schenectady man posted video footage of women using his bathroom online, where one of them eventually found it.
The victim’s discovery set in motion an investigation that would lead to his arrest, but finding herself exposed on the Internet was not a pleasant experience, prosecutor Jessica Lorusso said.
“I can only imagine complete horror,” she said of the woman’s reaction.
Keifer Wray, 24, of Michigan Avenue, was charged this week with one count each of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony, and second-degree dissemination of an unlawful surveillance image, a misdemeanor.
He is accused of secretly videotaping at least two women, both visitors at his residence, as they used the bathroom sometime between Jan. 1 and Aug. 11.
Wray allegedly accomplished this by placing a camera disguised in a small silver clock in his bathroom. He is then accused of uploading at least one of the videos to a website based outside the United States.
The alleged scheme began to unravel as the woman spotted the clock and a red light on it, Lorusso said.
Lorusso said it wasn’t apparent what the clock was, but there was a USB port on the back. Sometime later, as the victim used Wray’s laptop with his consent, she saw an email related to uploading a video to a site.
“She kind of put one and one together,” Lorusso said.
At some point after that, she found the video itself online.
By that point, Wray had admitted to the woman that the clock was a camera, Lorusso said. As far as the videos uploaded to the site, Lorusso said she will be working with the state police to determine what can be done. But the site is believed to be based outside the United States, likely making efforts to have the videos taken down difficult, if not impossible.
The charges are based on the reasonable expectation of privacy in the man’s bathroom, Lorusso said. “When they don’t know they’re being taped, that’s where the crime comes in,” she said.
The investigation is continuing and authorities are concerned that there may be more victims, Lorusso said.
Wray appeared in court and was released to return later. He is due back Sept. 4.

The registry, or locking the perv up? The registry was feel-good legislation, wasn't it? I should call it feel not as bad, because of the circumstances that resulted in the law. A list of dangerous predators, without all of the "levels", is the only thing that could serve any purpose whatsoever, and even that isn't really helpful.

there is no purpose in it.....it completely nullifies what america is.....we just don't know what to do with them, regarding
sentencing.....why on a list when once time served it's served? not to mention it's only the ones that have been caught and
it screws everything up with teen dating....we're arbitrarily drawing lines in the sand based on the tide of human groaning
'they need to do something'......

keep telling elementary school kids they can't physically defend themselves because there's zero tolerance for violence....

maybe there would be personal boundaries set THE RIGHT WAY....who sits back and waits for some kind of 'expert/authority' to
save them? that's not human. that's abuse by the system.

The creepy predators that will grab your child off of the street, there is no justification for letting them out, they are too dangerous, a registry is a pieceof paper that can't protect anyone. Most child molesters are known to the family, they don't snatch your kid off the playground. You have to be aware, unfortunately, if they haven't been caught no one is going to be able to warn you. I agree, a registry does very little, if anything.
If you are talking about grown women, not children, again, they let violent criminals back out on the street anyway so you have to look out for yourself, plus, women often fall victim to someone they are acquainted with. Just don't take any precautions that might offend a strange man, in an elevator or anything like that, you might be guilty of being a racist if you show any signs of nervousness or wariness.

Don't worry police and laws will protect you and your family from everything bad in the world.  Just go and talk to your local representative and they will be more than glad to sponsor another law and create another government agency to set your mind at ease.  They may have to wire tap everybodies communications to guarantee everybodies safety, but that's a small price to pay to "feel" secure.

Don't worry, it's coming.  You all will feel safe soon enough in this scary place called the world, just as soon as the government can monitor every persons movements and communication.  Everybody must be on the register and continually monitored for it to work.  They are 75% there.

I agree with Madam...if you have an intuitive feel that makes you uncomfortable around somebody, you must suppress those emotions so not to make the other person know you are judging them.  Judging people is a crime for the mundane.  You must not show any body language that indicates you may be judgmental and want to flee the encounter.  Only the government costumed can be judgmental.  Take 'stop and frisk' in NYC for example, if a cop "feels" a black male teen wearing a hoodie is a possible danger, he/she can stop and frisk him.  If the mundane citizen feels the same way about a black male teen wearing a hoodie, they are most certainly judgmental and racist.

But...You don't want to judge anybody UNTIL the gun is next to your head.  You need to have proof that the person is threatening before you can pass judgement.  If you are on the street with strangers, and for whatever reason you intuitively feel uncomforable because of the persons clothes, behavior, or other physical traits, you must not judge that person until you are actually put in a threatening position.  If you do, that is prejudice, because those strangers with their pants hanging off their a**, doo rags, and gold teeth may be the welcoming committee.  Or, to put it another way, if you are black and a pickup truck with 3 white guys in it, pulls up next to you asking for directions, and there is a rebel flag in the back window and confederate bumper stickers all over it - don't pre judge, they may be members of the welcoming committee or civil war historians.
