Schenectady police alert residents to burglary spree
Posted: Aug 19, 2013 3:02 PM EDT

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Schenectady Police Department would like to alert residents of a recent string of burglaries that have been committed in the North side of the city.

Police say there have been 18 reported burglaries from August 1st to August 19th, which are believed to be all related.

The burglaries have been reported in areas from Union Street north to Seneca Street, from Foster Avenue extending east to Lowell Road. The burglar(s) has been stealing money, laptops, cellphones, and other small electronic devices.

Police say the point of entry has been through a rear or side window, which had been left unlocked by the homeowners. In some of the reported incidents the window screen had been either been cut or removed completely. The burglaries are occurring during the overnight hours when the residents are home asleep.

The incidents are all under investigation and increased patrols are set up in target areas of the city.

Police would like to encourage residents to:

•Close and lock their windows, particularly at night;
•Set alarms if their house is equipped with one;
•Turn on exterior lights, particularly those in the rear of their homes;
•Call police immediately if they observe suspicious activity.

Of course, this doesn't include burglaries, break-ins, assaults, drug deals, etc etc throughout the rest of the city.

One SMALL area!

Mayor McCarthy and his team are doing a great job in the city.  Keep up the good work.

TOTAL SILENCE.

Wow, McCheese actually succeeded at a task.   He successfully kept this a big secret for more than half of August.

a true sign of the renaissance!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Notice that the big cheerleader avoids addressing all these issues.   Won't speak Brucker fleeing the city, won't address the burglary sprees, won't address the posting of the assessment roll proving the drastically falling tax base, won't address the legitimate home sale reports showing the falling prices in Schenectady Co while ALL the other counties see increases, won't address the fact that Schdy is the only co that blew the tax cap.

We pretty much put him out of "business."   He's so embarrassed with all the evidence of no renaissance that he felt better after piling on all the polish food yesterday, helping a mama selling the polish bread. He didn't wasn't even wearing the little boy's tie. Didn't even get up to dance.

this goes on ALL the time.....EVERYWHERE in the city!

it seems a bit strange that this is suddenly 'news worthy'.

Do people really need a warning to tell them that Schenectady is a filthy crime ridden cesspool?  And that's just the political class.

It does go on everywhere, bt, including that recent string of burglaries in Country Knolls that the media used to bash Schenectady. I think that the reason we are hearing this now is because the perpetrator has gotten desperate enough to enter residences when people are home. That's a dangerous situation. Maybe they think that telling people to lock their windows will help, but I really doubt in that area there are that many windows that can be locked securely. Imagine having to swelter in a stuffy apartment on some of these mild nights, for fear someone is going to come in? Not everyone has air conditioning. People are legally justified in shooting someone who crawls in a window, but in a multiple unit dwelling, you are probably more likely to hit someone sleeping in the next apartment.

No one is safe while City Hall is in session? Another new low. One single mom was awoken to find a bandit drinking a cup of water in her kitchen at 4AM. The entire
neighborhood is buzzing about this. No fear/no police presence. The fact the the TU once again scooped the Gazetto and that it took 19 days for the media to report this
is sickening. Schenectady keeps plunging down to Mexico City levels while the political pigs scream renaissance and hand out another half million to the Galsei Group.
For housing no one wants.

I saw a very well written letter to the paper about a police presence being needed in the park, while BS was mayor, I have personally called city hall and I know others have, they blame it on "not enough money" but it's an allocation of resources issue.
These single mothers, they get lured here because somebody is making money off of them, then they get just enough "help" that they are living in bad neighborhoods in shoddy housing, vulnerable to God Knows Who deciding to drop by. Tonight is going to be muggy, don't think about having a fan in thewindow. Do you think some of these "investor" landlords are going to install the kind of locks that enable windows to be left open, but not enough for someone to climb in? I know a young man who lived in a first floor apartment that could not be secured because the window was broken and did not fit in the frame, the landlord was a very well known local man who gets away with visible code violations.

Police made an arrest the other morning at a house that's been a trouble spot here in the Upper Union area, they do try, but somehow the occupants stick around and continue to bother their neighbors. I think it's time to establish an offshore penal colony. Perhaps at Guantanamo Bay. Or perhaps just across the border in Mexico. Don't tell them there's a quid pro quo for taking their citizens.

Another burglary on Northside this morning on Raymond. There is very positive news as SPD starts to roll up these bandits and close fence operations. Developing...
Report ANY suspicious activity immediately to the SPD on 911. Set an example out of these punks.

Breaking News! Arrest of a 22 year old on felony charges who has admitted ALL the Northside burglaries. Charges against the fence on Van Vranken. The entire neighborhood was in fear of this one man crime wave. And yes 20 breakins including 5 in one night might be a record even in Schenectady. Congrats to the SPD and the residents who assisted in this collar. Now throw the book at him and make him an example for other wanna be gangstas.
