of course this had to be done. Most of the folks in the city can't/won't/don't feed their kids!! And why the hell should they when they get their food from food stamps, there are summer lunch programs everywhere, city mission feeds them blah blah.

Don't git me wrong.....they are truly folks who truly need this service.....but clearly not ALL of them!!!

Well, guess if you have 70% of the students unable to graduate...might as well give them a free meals to compensate??
Maybe someone in the district can find a program to get updated text books for the kids or find a program to help the district get off the 'failing schools' list? That might help the kids for the long run.....
Glad all kids get free meals, but a quality education is what they are truly there for.

And the D-Voice of Socialism keeps repeating his claim that the city is in a renaissance. Cheer cheer, shake those pom poms for wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayer dollars on thing that are supposed to be in the private sector and the parents (but then, as he's never been a parent and never will know those joys, he wouldn't understand).
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
