What are the odds that less than 24 hours after installing a new video surveillance system a landlord captures a burglary suspect in the act? That's exactly what happened in Schenectady Wednesday morning.

A man wearing a winter hat on a summer day could be seen on surveillance video canvassing the property at 310 Brandywine Avenue in Schenectady, just after sun up on Wednesday. He waved his hand outside the driveway window and then again outside the front door. When no one waved back, the man walked up the driveway, slit the screen on a basement window, pushed the window open, and then climbed through into the house.

Several minutes later, a video camera on the other side of the house captured the man, plain as daylight, coming out the side door with two window fans, and assorted loot carried in plastic bags.

"Our cell phones, our computers, our cameras, a wallet, and money (were taken)," says Stacey Long, a Chinese exchange student living in the Schenectady for the summer. What's especially troubling for Long is that the burglar also got away with her passport and she needs to fly home at the end of the month.

"I am shocked!," exclaimed Yuchien Huang, Long's roommate, also an exchange student, who says crime is very uncommon in China, she's never seen it. Now her apartment in Schenectady has been broken into twice in one week.

"It's got to be somebody who noticed there was only girls over there," theorized Ghanshyam Gocool, the landlord who lives next door.

AFter the first break-in on Monday night, Gocool immediately purchased and put up eight new security cameras on Tuesday night. Then, on Wednesday morning, the burglar showed up.

definition: People commit felonies to steal $5 window fans because things are so great.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

A guy with a winter jacket in summer.   Cops can't go after him, it would be racial profiling.   But why do they wear winter clothes or the hoodies if not to cover their faces?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Who allowed those young ladies to move to Brandywine in the first place? The landlord being next door might have given an illusion of safety, but unaware young women in a strange country belong in the safest living situation possible, and Brandywine is risky for those without street smarts.

you did NOT just say 'allowed those young ladies'....did you?

women are not victims, they can be just as dumb as a man

I said "allowed these young ladies" because they are foreign students in a strange place, and somebody has some responsibility for their safety while they are here. When you send your young adult child away to college, colleges have some oversight, usually even for those off campus in the neighborhoods. Somebody should have warned them. I know for fact that many schools in Boston warn students about certain neighborhoods. I'd say the women were victims, as I see footage of a creepy man entering their dwelling and making off with their stuff. What if one of them had been asleep inside? And they weren't dumb, they were unaware, as I stated, so someone should've clued them in that Brandywine wasn't a good place for them. I thought I stated all that clearly.

I seemed pretty grouchy on that last post. I have had an extremely stressful couple of days.
There is a lot of money potentially in stolen passports. I think the guy targeted them not only because it was three girls alone, but three girls who might possess passports. The coat could be to distract when trying to give a description, or something he could ditch in the cemetery on the way home and thus not be recognized. Waving at the windows, if he did that to a local and there was somebody home they would come out and punch him in the face for casing their place.
I know people who live over there without problems, but they know what they are dealing with. I could take a map and mark it up and an outsider would be horrified at how many "incidents" there have been within walking distance of that place. Isn't it a few doors down from the group home that at onetime housed a young murderer from NYC? And the school that used to be, destroyed by young arsonists? Then there is the place next to the Islaamic Center, scene of a brutal murder, go over to McClellan Street, there's that bar with that stabbing, the funeral home where the police had to talk the guy next door into giving up his gun, the one he was threatening mourners with, the nearby street where the nun was murdered, etc. Just not a good place for the uninitiated to be.
