Remember Etailogic, the Tennessee-based e-commerce company that in late June issued a release saying it was moving operations from Knoxville to Schenectady to take advantage of the tax-free glory of the START-UP NY program?

The hitch, or rather hitches: The company had made inquiries but hadn’t yet signed any sort of deal with the Electric City’s Metroplex Development Authority; the entities that could put Etailogic on the list of potential tax-free lucky winners hadn’t been set up; and the whole START-UP shebang won’t even go into effect until next year.

Etailogic’s CEO Phil Autelitano explained that the release had been issued prematurely.

Six weeks after that episode we have news that Etailogic definitely won’t be coming to Schenectady — and Autelitano on Wednesday blamed that decision in part on comments from a Metroplex official that Autelitano interpreted as being offensive to Italian-Americans.

Wow, now THERE'S a welcoming committee we can all be proud of!!

Thought the Mayor had the lead on eye-rolling-socially-inept-manners towards the general public during Council meetings. Good to know we have the Plex leaders following suit with prospective, tax-paying-job-creating companies.

Someone get the shovel, we need to dig this City further into a blackhole!!!
