SCHENECTADY - Police have arrested a man on weapons charges after they say the man accidentally shot himself in a motel room.
Schenectady Police say that 21-year-old Joseph Hewitt of Schenectady accidentally shot himself after the loaded handgun he was carrying in the waistband of his pants discharged at around 8:00 p.m. Friday night in a room at the Imperial Motel at 927 State Street.
He was treated for a groin injury on scene and transported to Albany Medical Center.
Hewitt is charged with criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of stolen property.
Police say the gun was reported stolen in North Carolina, and that Hewitt was not legally able to possess a firearm due to a prior conviction. |
