That would make sense. That they stuck it out through tragedy, awful street conditions, the disruption of construction, only to leave at the point there was light at the end of the tunnel, that made less sense. If the rumor is true, that would be similar to what happened to the Pizza King. He kept on serving the public when the street outside his business looked like Beirut, only to find he was not going to be a participant in the "renaissance" after all. The pattern fits.

There is no German restaurant left in Schenectady County ... and only 2 "marginally" German restaurants left within 25 miles or so. You have to go to the Catskills or Hudson Valley to get decent German food. And quite frankly, German cuisine -- along with Polish and Scandinavian cuisine -- is far superior to anything else out there.

I am well aware of when the German restaurant was at that corner. If a beer garden were to go on that corner NOW, it would be across the street from an alcohol treatment facility. German cuisine fell out of favor, for some reason. It is due for a comeback.

The city will probably borrow a million dollars to demolish the Bistro, Olenders, the Army Navy building and the other buildings down to the ARC, and sell the property to Galesi for a dollar.
And this is probably why DV has become so vocal on this thread.
Like Grammy said, probably a 'friends and family' member bought the building for a quarter, will get $2 million in Plex money and a lifetime of tax exemptions to run yet another bar/restaurant.
Wait for the next Gillen-Plex-Rag-Release informing us of the wonderful job he's doing giving away more business property for nothing.
Once Erie is done, regardless of how stupid it was to waste so much taxpayer money... It will look nice, and Gillen can continue his great giveaway of public moneys....
And that corner could become very valuable. There is all sorts of space available around that building for parking now, and heck they could even have a business with a drive thru with the tearing down of the building right next to it.
