You (as usual) have it backwards Henry. Murder is a crime in it self. A murder associated with a hate crime has an "ADDED" sentence.
so what's a crime of passion?
love murder?
honestly, you, me or any entity CANNOT define hate/love/sadness etc etc....much like god is unproven....
HATE CRIMES AND THEIR SENTENCES ARE ILLEGAL........
what I find funny is that it's a quick snap to convict and sentence based on a VERY subjective word called hate(feeling) but claiming insanity is next to impossible even when one has a mental health diagnosis....
'hate crimes' IS A STUPID AND IGNORANT TERM that is both politically charged and more like A Clockwork Orange....
how do you measure hate? how do you know someone hates you? even if I said hate do you even know what I mean/feel?
really Box you don't seriously buy into 'hate crimes' do you? you seem a little smarter than a 5 year old who yells at their parents "I hate you, you won't give me a cookie" or "you hate me, you won't give me a cookie"......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

Yes, hate crime is a tool to further divide people into collective groups. Hate crimes is a group identifier. If a white person commits a crime against a black person or visa versa, you are first identified by your group label. It is not a crime between two Americans, but two classes. It perpetuates the Balkanization of America. It's by design.
Cicero, like Henry, gets it backwards. (They both know better but play dumb... really dumb) "If a white person commits a crime against a black person or visa versa"... It's just a crime.
A hate crime happens "If a white person commits a crime against a black person or visa versa" BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE. But you already know that.

Yes box we know what it is, what you are saying is the motive should be used to give a harsher sentence not just the crime itself. Motive should be used to find guilt of the actual crime, not be the deciding factor for a stiffer sentence. If two people were shot to death one in a robbery and one in a race motivated killing why should one suspect get a harsher sentence when both crimes had the same outcome which is murder.

So you have nothing to say, to you a race motivated killing is worse then a robbery gone wrong murder.

I have posted it... you refuse to believe it. Is lynching a man because he is black a different crime than a murder to steal a wallet? I think so. Both people are dead... but the crime itself is entirely different. One is a typical crime... the other is meant to intimidate an entire race.
If you can't see the difference then I doubt that I can explain it to you.

you're kidding aren't you? murder is murder...tossing 'hate' into the equation makes it nothing more...it doesn't matter the reason why it was pre-meditated.....
wow....you put judges as gods...neither of which has the magical power to know the human mind...you of all people should know that.....

The laws are fair. A hate crime is more serious than a conventional crime because it abuses more than the immediate victim. When a criminal act is based on a factors such as a victim's race, gender, sexual orientation or religion, it takes on some of the characteristics of a terrorist act. The victim and the perpetrator are typically strangers. The crime is not directed simply against one person; it is intended to target and intimidate the victim's entire group. These acts have been referred to as "message crimes:" violence intended to send a message to a minority group within a community.

Wrong the crime is the same the motive is different, you just believe one death is more worthy of a harsher sentence is all.

I bet you would think differently if one of your family members was a victim of a sick crime and the suspect received a slap on the wrist while another criminal of the same crime is sentenced to life, it happens all the time and justice for one family is not served. But hey continue to copy and paste someone else's beliefs because you obviously can't make up your own mind on the topic.

Yes the crime of murder is the same... but this is MURDER AND MORE. The intent of a hate crime is to murder the victim, then to use that murder to intimidate a group.
If you suddenly saw known TeaBaggers bodies hanging from street lamps in your neighborhood... and the police looking the other way... you might be able to understand why these laws are needed. If the many of your neighbors thought TeaBagger lynchings were acceptable... and TeaBaggers were being found dead weekly in your city, you might see that it isn't JUST A MURDER... It's murder plus intimidation of all TeaBaggers.

As I posted above... I keep explaining it... you just don't comprehend it.
Where did I propose one murder gets YOUR slap on the wrist and another murder gets life in prison??? Both murderers should get similar punishments for murder... PLUS more if it's a hate crime. Now Henry... why not start with your "SLAP ON THE WRIST" and see where you're not comprehending.

I wouldn't think differently, I would hope the killer is sentenced like any other killer no matter the motive, we are supposed to have equal justice in this country, separating the same acts by motive in this case hate crimes does nothing but puts people into groups and in return creates a higher worthiness of a harsher sentence.

OK I know this is an exercise in futility but here goes... One more time...
When a man is murdered, there is one victim. The person who is killed. In a hate crime where a man is murdered, there is one victim AND a group of people who are also a victim of this crime... they are victims of the intimidation caused by this murder.
If you don't understand that... as posted above... I doubt you ever will.
