Exactly, motive doesn't matter if the end result is the same. If I were a victim of a violent act I would hope the sentence would be the same no matter the motive. The crime is what is punishable and should be equally applied in my opinion. If one of your family members were assaulted would you want the suspect to get a lighter sentence because they didn't call them a honkey first, I doubt it.

Yes, hate crime is a tool to further divide people into collective groups. Hate crimes is a group identifier. If a white person commits a crime against a black person or visa versa, you are first identified by your group label. It is not a crime between two Americans, but two classes. It perpetuates the Balkanization of America. It's by design.
