We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

First off, I am not against reasonable gun control laws... Criminals and the mentally unstable should not be able to get them legally...although, people are pretty naive if they think that will stop a good number of them.

The problem I have is the press, the government, and anyone else anti-gun blaming the gun for the violence. The gun is nothing more than a potential instrument of violence.

People blame guns for mass killings, but do we credit the Basketball that Michael Jordan shot with all the championships the Chicago Bulls won? Or the bats that Babe Ruth used for the HR record? Of course not, because they are instruments... instruments that do NOTHING unless operated or manipulated by a human being.

Do you believe that a person should be given Due Process before restricting their right to purchase a gun?  Or do you support a doctor's diagnosis of a person's mental health as adequate due process?  Does anxiety and depression or the countless other mental diagnosis' constitute the restriction of gun ownership?

The criteria should be case by case...type of mental illness, current mental state, criminal history (crimes committed while mentally ill), board of doctors recommendation...

So no due process?  No more jury of peers but jury by Doctor?  Who appoints the board of Doctor and establishes the guidelines, congress or the White House?

It's amazing how quick will give up their rights when they have no idea what the guidelines are and believe it won't affect themselves.

Every commercial I see about anti depressants always lists suicidal thoughts as a side effect.  That would lead me to believe that the tens of millions taking anti depressants could be ineligible for a gun.  I'd be willing to bet that everybody on this board knows somebody that is or has in the past, taken an anti depressant.  That's not to mention the returning vets that have been diagnosed with PTSD.

If a person taking anti depressants commits suicide with a gun they purchased, can the Doctor that prescribed the anti depressant be held liable because they didn't report it to the FBI?

You'd think Bumbler never HAD TO get a drivers license, insured, registered and licensed a car.
I wonder if he/she feels that THEY are coming to take away his cars too???

So if gun laws that would keep YOUR INSTRUMENTS OF VIOLENCE out of the hands of YOUR criminals and the
Mentally disturbed, were proposed, like say... Background checks for all gun sales, and serious penalties for
Phantom gun purchases... WOULD YOU SUPPORT THEM, EVEN IF THEY WERE PROPOSED BY HILLARY OR
OBAMA???
SURE YOU WOULD!

Nobody still outlined what the criteria for which mental conditions would restrict gun ownership.  Or which branch of government makes the guidelines.  Is it legislative or executive?  Is there judicial review or any sort of due process as required by the constitution?

Can a rape victim that suffers from PTSD and taking anti depressants purchase a gun because she wants to protect herself from being raped again?
