Kerry T. Prater, a 53-year-old man from West Liberty, Kentucky, was armed with two loaded handguns, a semi-automatic rifle and several hundred rounds of ammunition when he tried to run an Erlanger police roadblock set up for President Obama’s motorcade on September 17, 2012
Mr. Prater also allegedly threatened former President Bush in 2004.

Man Linked to 'Occupy' Protest Charged With Attempted Assassination of Obama
An Idaho man accused of firing two shots at the White House last week has been charged with attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama or his staff.
Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, made his first court appearance before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh on Thursday, one day after he was arrested at a western Pennsylvania hotel. He will be taken back from a federal court in Pittsburgh to face the charges in Washington, D.C.
Ortega will remain in federal custody at least until a magistrate in Washington can determine if he should remain jailed until his trial on the charge, which carries up to life in prison.

A man was shot in the arm by an instructor during a concealed carry course Saturday night in Lancaster, Ohio, the Lancaster Eagle Gazette reported. (Talk about poetic justice!)
Michael Piemonte, 26, told the newspaper that he was attending his first ever concealed carry course when the instructor's gun discharged while demonstrating where a person could keep his or her weapon. He said the bullet ricocheted off a desk before lodging in his right arm.

An Arizona man was target shooting in the desert south of Tucson on Monday when he was shot in the buttocks by his 3-year-old son, according to The Arizona Daily Star.
The boy shot his father with a .22-caliber rifle, Tom Louis, battalion chief for the Green Valley Fire District, told the newspaper.
"Fortunately, the patient's injuries were not life-threatening," said Louis.

A woman in Arizona has told police that she accidentally killed her husband with his own shotgun after he insisted that she pick it up even though she told him she was uncomfortable around guns.
In a statement, the Prescott Valley Police Department said that Wingate’s 54-year-old wife had not been comfortable around firearms, but he asked her to pick up his 12-guage shotgun and hand it to him anyway. The weapon discharged while she was in the process of handing it to him, striking him in the upper torso.
“It seems like they meant to take [the shotgun] out this weekend on a trip and he wanted her to get more familiar with it,” Sgt. Brandon Bonney explained.
Bonney said that the shooting appeared to be accidental, but police were treating it as a homicide. The Yavapai County Medical Examiner was expected to determine a cause of death, and then investigators will forward the case to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
The police sergeant noted that Prescott Valley had seen a number of unfortunate accidental shootings in recent months.
Earlier this year, a 4-year-old accidentally shot and killed his 35-year-old father, an Iraq war veteran, in Prescott Valley. And two other people accidentally shot themselves while cleaning their firearms.

In the first half of 2013, security agents at airports across the nation seized 862 guns that passengers tried to take through security checkpoints in their carry-on luggage. The number is on course to exceed last year’s record total of 1556. Are these passengers the mentally ill? Or criminals intent on committing crimes? No. They are regular, ‘responsible.’ run-of-the-mill gun owners who ‘forgot’ where they last saw their guns.

By whose statement? The person that had the gun? Yeah, I'm sure if they had devious intentions, they'd admit it. All of them MUST have "innocently" put their guns in their bags...after all, no one would lie about that, right? Every gun owner I know routinely puts their gun in a suitcase..
Those security agents are dumber than I thought.. the only ones dumber are people that truly believe that story.

The stories that airport officials have to tell about why these seizures are occurring: ~ The bishop of a local church, William Henry Murphy III, keeps a handgun in a bag he carries when he’s out at night. In June, when he packed for one of his frequent flights out-of-town, the gun inadvertently ended up in his luggage: “I didn’t go through my normal routine; the bag I carry at church on a day-to-day basis was thrown into my carry-on without me repacking.”
~ Oops, just lost track of it for a little while–long enough to result in the bishop’s arrest at the airport. He’s in good company, though. Lawyer John Turner always carried a handgun in a fanny pack for a daily walk with his dog–at least until the day he wore the fanny pack to the airport to catch a flight to a family event. As he recalled after his arrest: “I didn’t think it was in there. I had always removed it.”
The fine can range from $200 to $11,000. In 2012, the TSA collected $1,887,745 in fines across the country. But the number of infractions and seizures just keeps going up.
~ In North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham International Airport, gun seizures this year have already exceeded the number in each of the past two years. The county tends to be lenient if the incident was inadvertent, but Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby is worried: “We’ve become such an armed society that people actually aren’t thinking about the fact that they’re carrying weapons with them. That’s a little bit sobering, to think that we are so accustomed to carrying a firearm with us that we often don’t think about it or realize that we have it.”
~ Gun dealer Ed Nicely was arrested at Raleigh-Durham with a .22 caliber derringer in his carry-on bag. Intentional? Of course not:
“Me being a gun dealer, I know the laws. I just didn’t see it in my bag. I was so amazed it was there. It was a total accident. It was stupid, yes.”
A total accident, total stupidity. Mind-boggling stupidity, as a matter of fact. These people are the ‘responsible’ gun owners. If they don’t even know where their guns are, how safe can the rest of us feel?

Every person that was caught with a gun in checked baggage HAD to have a concealed carry permit (except no non-restricted carry states), or they were violating the law... which does NOT make them part of the "responsible" gun owners group. ONLY five states (Wyoming, Vermont, Arkansas, Arizona, and Alaska) have unrestricted concealed carry laws. To most people, responsible goes hand in hand with legal. The laws on guns in Airports is well known, ignorance is not an excuse or responsible.

The point being these were not criminals or typical irresponsible individuals. They were business owners, Lawyers, Ministers etc, who acted irresponsibly. The TYPICAL GUN OWNER!

You're missing the point.... When they
A. Tried to to bring a firearm on a place in carry on luggage and/or b. violated their permit bv carrying concealed...
They violated either state or federal law. Violating these laws upon conviction makes them a criminal. Please define "typical responsible individual", I'm at a loss.
Box, you are a model of hypocrisy.. on one side of your mouth so say you are not against the right to bear arms, but on the other side, you describe the "typical" gun owner as being irresponsible. I would think some thing you consider as irresponsible , that being the "typical" gun owner, should be dealt with by the seizing of the gun.. priceless....

The Lawyer, The Gun Dealer... both should know better than to take a gun on a plane... yet they didn't. They "forgot"!
They aren't criminals (until this incident) they are typical GunHuggers. They want the guns but treat them with indifference. Typical GunHuggers.
