NYSAFP Vaccine Toolkits
We should provide vaccines to our patients with maximum compliance with standards and minimum financial risk. Two kits follow with some overlap: Vaccine Finance Toolkit developed by Dr Stanley Schaffer of University of Rochester supported by a grant to NYSAFP by NYS DOH, and a Compliance Toolkit submitted by Dr Philip Kaplan. We need your help to assess the value of these kits and to continually improve such value.
Please direct comments or suggestions for either kit to vaccine@nysafp.org .
Vaccine Standards Compliance Toolkit
• The National Vaccine Advisory Committee developed Standards for Child and Adolescent Immunization Practices, revised February 2002 and published in Pediatrics October 2003; 112: 958-963. These 17 standards can be found at:
•
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/vac-admin/rev-immz-stds.htm#child You must use the most current VIS for each vaccine:
http://www.immunize.org/vis/ “Check your stock of VISs against this list. If you have outdated VISs, search immunize.org website by VACCINE or by LANGUAGE to get current versions.”
Upper right section of home page has a chart of current VIS dates.
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-Instructions.pdf For current rules on usage of VIS.
VISs are available in about 33 languages. If the VIS you need is available only in an outdated edition, give the patient the foreign language VIS and the current edition of the English version.

Vaccines During Pregnancy and Lactation
“Neither inactivated nor live vaccines administered to a lactating woman affect the safety of breast feeding for women or their infants. Breast feeding… is not a contraindication for any vaccine, with the exception of smallpox.”
