A city man faces multiple charges after wreaking havoc with his car Wednesday while driving through a Mont Pleasant neighborhood, police said.
Steven Braxton, 21, crashed into another vehicle, then fled the scene and slammed into a pump at a nearby gas station, sparking a fire, police said.
Braxton was arrested early Wednesday morning shortly after causing the fire at the Mobil station at 585 Broadway, authorities said. The driver had crashed his 2007 Mitsubishi into a car near the corner of Crane Street and Fourth Avenue, Lt. Mark McCracken, a police department spokesman said, and then drove down Crane Street but lost control of his car near the corner of Crane and Broadway.
Braxton hit a gas pump at the Mobil station and drove away, he said.
The base of the gas pump broke apart, sparking the fire.
The station's fire suppression system extinguished the blaze before it spread.
A car parked at the gas station was damaged by debris from the crash, McCracken said. No injuries were reported.
Braxton, of Poplar Street, was charged with criminal mischief, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and other traffic violations. He was arraigned in City Court and sent to Schenectady County Jail on $500 bail.

How many months later and the Oak St bridge is still in the same condition?
The only way Amtrak fixes it is if the city sues them, the bridge collapses on to the tracks or city takes some sort of a stand in denying access to road crossings....

This explains the numerous sirens I heard at that time. The issue with railroad bridges and local governments, it comes up all the time in different communities. Every time it's as if it is new. This is the real work of government, people. Taking care of issues like this that people can't solve for themselves. Notice how when it comes to the stuff they are supposed to be doing, they never do it, they don't even know how. Try that at YOUR job, sometime. Don't do your work, do something else you like better, and when it comes time for an evaluation, show your boss all the great stuff you did, and if she asks where is the work you were supposed to do, tell her that work is too hard, the problems aren't solvable, it isn't your responsibility, and anyway, she will have to pay you more because you spent hours nd hours doing other stuff. See how that goes over.
