My god. Lower Eastern Ave. is unreal with fireworks.  Kids screaming, the music blaring.  The worst it has been in 10 years but then again this whole area is now a mini NYC.  Wonder how many show up at the food pantries and at DSS on a regular basis.

Yup huge crowds out tonight but other then that I haven't seen any real problems. You would have thought fireworks are legal in this state considering some of the items people are setting off   But hey let them have fun for one night as long as they don't hurt others, I was actually watching a cop parked on the side of the road watching a group of kids light of some huge fireworks, nothing they can really do there is so many of them around.

They can do something- ticket those who are  caught.

This aggravates me to no end every freaking year! I have tranquilize my dog every freakin night because I can't predict who is going to be out there breaking the law. For instance, when Scotia has their fireworks I can plan to leave my house with my dog for an hour a ten o'freakin clock at night and drive in the opposite direction with him until it's over thus avoiding putting him under.

But when these idiots, and I mean idiots, blow them up all night, every night surrounding July 4, probably will go on right thru the
weekend, he suffers and in turn it obviously stresses me out and angers me that he has to suffer because of the police and the
various idiots.

I do hope that they lose an arm or something and it would serve them right. I'm going to pray for it.

ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL! They don't enforce the laws, how do you expect it to get better!

Do I have to patrol like Zimmerman, then call all the offenders in? That's their job. I'm not saying track everyone down but
when you run into it, do what ever it is you are supposed to do! Enforce the law! Christ!

A lot of fireworks on the hill, always a couple of places that must spend thousands of dollars literally, went on for hours and hours.
But a VERY large crowd (with a fight)  near my corner, police arrive and I was worried for their safety. Had to be over 100 in the crowd and maybe 4-6
cops.
So the crowd moves over to Paige St area and about 20 minutes later cops again. finally around 2 am it started quieting down.

It isn't just in the city.  There are illegal fireworks in Rotterdam -- one location has been doing it for about 20 years.   And it isn't as if it were just a couple fireworks, it is about 20 minutes worth.  So, it would be difficult for anyone in the law enforcement community to say that it was too difficult to notice and then track down or locate the source of the illegal fireworks display.

I believe that ALL illegal fireworks should be ticketed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

They annoy the heck out of me as well, I apparently have relatively close neighbors that, during the month of July, just randomly set off something very loud.

The problem with law enforcement really targeting this problem is that in the city especially - there are far more severe issues for them to contend with.

Prosecute regarding fireworks????    And from WHERE to you think the city is supposed to get the money to do that????   DUH!   Have you noticed that all the tax money is going into downtown??????    Guess you suggest that YOUR BUDDY DEMS increase taxes even more?

The bigger fireworks are dangerous in a city because of older houses are so close together, etc.   Because of that, the leaders of the city need to prioritize the spending of tax money to improve the city, I trust you agree with that DV?

Is it better to spend the tax money to give it to pollitical cronies which causes the tax base declines?   Or is it better to spend the money to have a police department sufficient enough to handle the illegal fireworks?    DV, as a non-taxpayer what choice to YOU believe is better?    Oh, DV won't answer this question, GUARANTEED

We had our little "show" with roman candles, bottle rockets, and sparklers, hardly dangerous when used away from houses and you water your lawn.  Sure the big stuff leave to the pros.  But police were driving around lots in Rotterdam.  We saw a display that seemed nearby, took a walk and as we walked we noticed most the the streets were deserted, not even sparklers, places that even a few years ago had put on shows, one street used to almost have a block party with fireworks mostly of the smaller kind.

But, now is the time that make MOST fireworks 100% LEGAL.   More people are killed in or by cars than than killed by fireworks.

Fireworks laws are useless, unenforceable and fireworks are legal in all but 8 states and DC..

Consumer fireworks, also referred to as DOT 1.4G fireworks, are legal according to federal law.
In order to be classified as "consumer fireworks", the fireworks must be tested by the Consumer
Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and meet various requirements with regard to composition,
the quantity of pyrotechnic material, and the stability of the product under heat and stress.
Once the CPSC has classified an item as a "consumer fireworks", the item is legal under Federal
law for consumer use. Fireworks that do not meet this certification are classified as commercial
(display) fireworks and require a Federal license to purchase and use them.

US Fireworks sells only consumer fireworks that have been certified by the CPSC for consumer use.

Albany police arrested people who used illegal fireworks on the 4th of July.  There is no excuse why any other police agency couldn't arrest people using illegal fireworks in their jurisdictions.  It really is a matter of having the will to actually enforce the law.

But why are fireworks illegal for 8 States?

And don't say because that's what the people want.

Even states where they have horrific wildfires allow fireworks.

Its once a year and as long as the people do them safely I don't mind, I actually enjoy the shows put on around the neighborhood better then the professional shows. Sure you will have the idiots lighting off M-80s at 3:00 in the morning but usually it lasts from 9 to 12, its been that way for decades so it should be obvious when to really expect them. As posted by L4L fireworks are legal in 42 states and they seem to get by just fine, I guess the other states like our just don't trust the people or like them celebrating our independence, I wonder why.

The guy they arrested was setting off his fireworks in the middle of the crowd at The Plaza, hurting several people.
He was charged with reckless endangerment, which is a far more serious charge than simple fireworks possession.

I know people at the plaza were arrested for using fireworks.

Now on your statement about cops having the will to enforce the law.  You probably don't know this but cops will, if they come upon people using them, will just tell them to stop.

DV, IF the people were arrested, do you have a clue that it costs money to have them in jail.   Do you know that?   Or do you think that all the jails have a money tree in their yards.

And DV, in order to house those arrested, they need to be fed, be given jail clothing which also has to be laundered, they must be provided medical care, prescriptions, etc.    Now tell us where the money comes for the medical staff, the laundry staff, the soap, the foods, the medicine, etc?

WON'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION EITHER.    It's far better to take the taxpayers' money and spend it on fancy light poles downtown, right?

Never knew a person who avoided addressing issues as much as DV
