Why Did Facebook Ban Fox News' Todd Starnes?
BY
FOX NEWS INSIDER
// JUN 29 2013 // 11:14AM

From Fox News Radio -- Facebook blocked Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes after he posted a message on his fan page supporting the National Rifle Association, Paula Deen and Jesus. He was also prevented from posting a daily Bible verse on the page.

“I’m about as politically incorrect as you can get,” Starnes wrote on his Facebook page. “I’m wearing an NRA ball cap, eating a Chick-fil-A sandwich, reading a Paula Deen cookbook and sipping a 20-ounce sweet tea while sitting in my Cracker Barrel rocking chair with the Gather Vocal Band singing ‘Jesus Saves’ on the stereo and a Gideon’s Bible in my pocket. Yes sir, I’m politically incorrect and happy as a June bug.”

The post generated hundreds of comments and went viral. But Facebook said what Starnes wrote violated their policies.

“We removed this from Facebook because it violates our Community Standards,” Facebook wrote in a message to Starnes. “So you’re temporarily blocked from using this feature.”

For the time being, Starnes has been blocked from his fan page as well as his personal page. He was also prevented from posting a daily Bible verse called “Morning Glory – Start Your Day Inspired.”

Starnes is the host of Fox News & Commentary – a daily radio commentary heard on hundreds of stations around the nation. He is a member of the National Rifle Association and owns a number of Paula Deen cookbooks. He also owns a Cracker Barrel rocking chair and is fond of sweet tea.

And he is also a fan of Southern Gospel music groups like the Gaither Vocal Band.

“I’m really perplexed,” Starnes said. “Does Facebook have a bigger problem with Jesus or plump juicy chicken breasts?”

The Fox News Radio host said it was disturbing the social networking site would target a group of conservative patriotic Americans — especially since they allow incredibly obscene Facebook pages to exist.

Among the vulgar, anti-conservative sites available on Facebook are:

“F*** Conservatives”

“F*** Mitt Romney”

“Tea Party Can Kiss My A**”

“Rush Limbaugh is an Abject A******”

“It’s really sad that Facebook objects to people who share traditional American values,” Starnes added. “And quite frankly, any community that doesn’t allow sweet tea and the Bible violates my personal standards.”

Last year Amazon suspended sales of Starnes’ book — “Dispatches From Bitter America – Culture War Stores From a Gun-Toting, Chicken-Eating, Son-of-a-Baptist.”

Amazon refused to say why they temporarily banned the book – but it had come under attack by liberal activists who flooded the site with bad reviews.

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, penned a column about what he called the “dangerous trend of online censorship.

“The ‘customers’ (a.k.a. liberal activists) had flooded Todd’s page with fake reviews of the book until the company pulled the plug,” Perkins wrote. “It was a stunning display of liberal censorship from Amazon.com–which sells far more objectionable and obscene material than a book by a mainstream radio host.”

“Yet this tiny protest from an intolerant fringe was all it took to strip the book from the shelves and expose the company’s true agenda,” Perkins wrote.

And it’s not the first time Facebook has targeted conservatives.

The popular “Chick on the Right” website was block last year for posting a critical comment about the White House press secretary. Facebook relented after a massive national outcry.
