You are obviously just an uninformed person with ax to grind against Mayor Stratton and, now, Mayor McCarthy. Mayor Stratton went to work on Day #1 to a) get the city out of the financial hole that Mayor Jurzynski had dug it into, and b) find way (grants, etc) to pay for the much needed street repairs.
You seem to forget that Mayor Jurzynski was the one who DISCONTINUED the schedule of routine paving and maintenance -- which Mayor Stratton reinstated but, of course, after 8 years of Jurzynski's neglect it meant having to do a lot of catching up.
And you call paying 2 miles of a street per year under the dems to be good?
You call paving a paltry two miles of streets in the NEIGHBORHOODS, where the TAXPAYERS LIVE, while the properties where the millionaires own them and don't pay taxes get everything done from scratch, and you call that a "paving program"

And really? Stratton and McC got the city out of ruin? Uh, let's see, would you care to state how much debt the city is in right now? Like the city created a PHONY SURPLUS by STEALING from two funds to put the money into the general fund in order to create a PHONY surplus. And how about not paying the county taxes in order to keep that money in the city rather than to pay the bill and show.

Alright I didn't intend for my thread to be hijacked lol,any way I have found out something alarming today! Earths magnetic north is moving at a very high rate of speed,in six months it has moved 161 miles whoa! The new north pole will be in Siberia in under 2 years,and because of this are house,roads,land and seas are moving too. Now I know it sounds crazy,but this is the reason for all the wild weather throughout the world,any one with a compass will see that the magnetic north is constantly moving at least 6-7 degrees a day! I couldn't believe it until I took pics of some of the streets in Schenectady,and you can definitely see a lean,just look at the telephone poles to get a better picture. Check your homes and foundations to see what I am talking about,I use several different programs to pin point earths movements. This is not due to global warming,it is because of a celestial object with a mass several times more than that of the earth.Dont take my word for it,get a compass and look for your self!
but fred, this does relate to why Broadway isn't in better condition, doesn't it? Stratton neglected all the roads. This is fact. We have a lot of leaning poles and trees in my neighborhood, but it happened for the most part when we had that hurricane that didn't do much but theground got so wet and soft that some trees actually tipped over. There is one light pole in Central Park hanging over the Road that is going to topple over soon. I never checked the direction of the lean on any of these things. Thank you, mantis. I'm so sick of hearing foolish support for these quacks and charlatans who steal from us and drive the city further into the ground. I do have an axe to grind against Stratton. His dopey "fix" of city finances by raising taxes sky high to get a better rating from some questionable sourceis the exact moment this city went into a death spiral. Places like Seattle, Tucson, Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Fort Lauderdale are all hopping on the trolley. Schenectady and the Capital District should get on board as well.

Toronto and Vancouver have the jump start on us -- and of course New Orleans and San Francisco still have their old systems. Places like Seattle, Tucson, Atlanta, Salt Lake City and Fort Lauderdale are all hopping on the trolley. Schenectady and the Capital District should get on board as well.
Schenectady is a pimple on an elephant's A$$ compared to these cities. Nor does Schenectady have the population to support such an endeavor. Look at the bus traffic, except for the Walmart runs, the buses are basically empty and just burning diesel fuel!

While I love the idea of a trolley you need to be real here, we can't even get the potholes in our streets fixed let alone a major project like that. Schenectady is a dying city, its already on life support and all attempts to save it are failing, the taxes are outrageous and the people who can afford to move are moving, those who can't afford to move or sell their houses are dreaming to move to better places. I lived in Schenectady my whole life, while I love the city I hate what our politicians did to it, they drove it into the ground.

You did notice that I said Capital District -- we have a regional transportation entity called CDTA -- and the Capital Region has almost a million people living in it.
And the buses are hardly empty -- but then you always see everything as "half empty."

Maybe Detroit, Camden and Stockton should consider trolleys. I am not against trolleys, just trolleys to nowhere so that a few welfarites don't have to climb the hill on the way back from DSS.
