Of course an insurance company can't 'deny' insurance to anyone who has a pre-existing condition. HOWEVER....they just get charged higher premiums.
Just like the woman who had/has breast cancer. Her husband's employer dropped 'spousal' coverage if the spouse can get coverage from their own employer.
So what was $700/month family coverage went to $400 for the husband from his employer to $700/month for the wife from her employer. So now they pay $1100/month with their combined coverage.
And no one will be able to 'hide' that they went to a dermatologist or anything else. Every office visit, every blood test, every written script, every hospital visit....is now directly sent to a central data bank that is available to all medical providers including insurance companies.
You can check with your doctor and ask if they keep TWO files on you or if they will. HONESTLY....this is being done more and more. Some docs will keep a file that will NOT be submitted via the data bank. This isn't to be fraudulent. It 's just that there are folks out there who don't want GOV ALMIGHTY to know and/or be in control of their health care provided via health insurance. They still believe in 'doctor/patient' confidential privilege. |

OOPS...no BINGO! FALSE ALARM...FALSE INFORMATION! It's far from perfect and far from being implemented well...but it's a step in the right direction!
Sorry Joey, didn't mean to burst your bubble. But ObamaCare does consider pre existing conditions, they subsidized those people with pre existing conditions by forcing young and healthy people to buy insurance at a higher rate, in order to pay for the old and sick. Paying for pre existing conditions wasn't done by waving a magic wand. It was done by taking money from healthy people by force. But hey, the ends justifies the means. Based on the fact you were from the Vietnam generation, you weren't forced to buy medical insurance when you were young and healthy. So this law makes perfect sense to you, you stand to only benefit while your children carry the burden. I never thought one generation of Americans could be so greedy. The boomers set the bar pretty high. |

Again, Cicero posts his true colors! "I GOT MINE, SCREW EVERYONE ELSE!" Future generations will look at this time in our history and be amazed how fervently one group worked to keep health care from the poor and needy. Many of those who are without health care coverage are small businessmen. They have a family of 5, and one of them has a preexisting condition... say high blood pressure or diabetes. Insurance, when he can find a company who will cover him, is in the thousands of dollars a month with a tens of thousands of dollars deductible. He can't afford the cost, so he does without. When one of his kids is in a car accident, who pays??? THE REST OF US WHO DO HAVE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE... YEA PEOP0LE LIKE CICERO! Taxpayers pay for his kids medical bills as the small businessman goes out of business trying to pay his medical bills. Out of work, a family of 5 ends up on welfare... and who pays? YEA PEOPLE LIKE CICERO!The Taxpayers. |

The Affordable Care Act forces insurance companies to play by the rules, prohibiting them from discriminating against anyone with a pre-existing condition, dropping your coverage if you get sick, billing you into bankruptcy because of an illness or injury, and limiting your annual or lifetime benefits.
Starting in 2014, the Affordable Care Act will prohibit health insurers from charging more or denying coverage to people because of pre-existing conditions. It will also make charging women more for health insurance a thing of the past. No more pre-existing condition denials for children: The parents of over 17.6 million children with pre-existing conditions no longer have to worry that their children will be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to children because of a pre-existing condition. And in 2014, discriminating against anyone with a pre-existing condition will be prohibited.

Future generations will look back in history, and be amazed that their ancestors(parents and grandparents) fought so hard to sell their children's bodies to the corporate insurance and pharmaceutical industry. Just because their parents and grandparents didn't want to pay for their own medical care as they aged. One generation racked up $17 trillion of debt during their life time, then sold their children to corporations to pay their medical bills. |

The holidays are upon us. Thanksgiving is next week! Even though I love this magical time of year, I can’t help but feel my anxiety level rise as my to-do list grows. And when my anxiety increases, my sleep decreases. For whatever reason, my body likes to deal with anxiety at night in the form of insomnia. Until several years ago, I have not been a good sleeper. I have been tortured with insomnia on and off my whole life. And torture is a pretty accurate word to use when it’s 2am in the middle of your umpteenth sleepless night, and your mind is still on that hamster wheel. I used to describe the feeling in my brain as having a light switch on that I just couldn’t flip off. Insomnia is MISERABLE! About ten years ago, when I was also going through the worst of my years of sickness, I was driven into such a craze from yet another night of no sleep, that I decided I needed a little help in the form of a pill to get some relief. My doctor did not immediately jump to Ambien (which is what I was hoping he’d prescribe me for a quick fix) but instead looked for the source of my night time wired mind. He explained that when a person is experiencing anxiety, it is common to motor through your day pretty unaffected and coping just fine, but the second your head hits the pillow, that switch in your mind flips on and your body deals with the anxiety at night. I left his office without a prescription for Ambien and instead began a three year relationship with Lexapro, a serotonin re-uptake drug. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in your brain that promotes a good mood and relaxation. At first, I was so happy to be sleeping like a baby, that I was perfectly content taking my one little “sanity” pill each day. But after I had several months of better than average sleep under my belt, I was thinking a whole lot more clearly and became much less enthused about my magic fix. I loved how Lexapro took away any anxiety and insomnia I had been experiencing, but that’s not all it took away. I had no feelings. I had to force myself to do what I had previously been motivated to do during my days. I would be perfectly content sitting on the couch watching life happen around me with no care in the world. I didn’t like the feeling of not caring and not having an emotional attachment to pretty much anything. And then there’s the weight gain. I felt puffy and carried around an extra five pounds the three years the drug was in my system. I made the decision to stop taking Lexapro after less than a year of starting it. Then began my two year yo-yo experience, as I tried to wean from myself from it. I began to research natural ways to boost my serotonin level because I believed that the cause of my chronic anxiety and insomnia was a chemical problem within my brain. I found that the body makes serotonin using the amino acid tryptophan. Eating a well balanced diet consisting of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, healthy oils, eggs, fish, and meat is the best way to ensure I’m getting enough tryptophan. But some people can still come up short and need a little boost. I decided to supplement with additional tryptophan. Except I didn’t start with tryptophan, I started with something called 5-HTP, which is what the body converts tryptophan into before making serotonin. I started off very slowly and worked up to several capsules per day until I started to feel relief. I was able to ditch Lexapro for good with the help of 5-HTP. But to be honest, I wasn’t completely satisfied with my sleep. I still lay in bed awake for at least an hour trying to shut off my overactive mind. I went back to researching and even met with a holistic specialist who suggested I try L-tryptophan instead of 5-HTP because it works better for some people. And guess what, I was one of those people. For the last several years, I have experienced amazing sleep. I feel like a new person!! A few other supplements that have also helped improve my sleep are GABA, melatonin, and liquid calcium and magnesium. GABA is also a neurotransmitter in your brain that calms you down for sleep at night. I’ve found that GABA wipes out my anxiety, so my mind can turn off. Melatonin is a hormone that helps you fall and stay asleep through the night. Magnesium is also needed for your body to relax, and because magnesium and calcium need to be taken together for both to absorb properly, I take a liquid calcium and magnesium supplement by Bluebonnet each night. I have found all three of these supplements have further helped improve my sleep quality, especially during stressful or hormonal times when I’m prone to anxiety. The holidays are a busy and crazy time of year. If you aren’t sleeping well or are suffering from anxiety or insomnia, don’t let that sabotage the merriment and celebration of the season. I encourage you to ask your doctor or other professional about these natural supplements that have helped me sleep. My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is the side dishes. I plan to make this bacon and butternut squash “risotto” for my family this year.

have you rented a car lately ? young people as you call them " renters under 25 are subject to an additional fee of $25/day". ouch . people under thiry five might be healthy but they like to drive fast- maybe get in a wreck and hurt every body real bad. people like to fight at that age. some gangs shoot you in the back just to paralyze you. yep under 35 has to pay. I dont want to pay for thier crazy behavior. healthcre for old people is way different, they have made it through the first 35 years. road rage is a thing of the past |

That does seem unfair. There are some drivers that are actually uninsurable. The ObamaCare fix would be to mandate older safer drivers a higher premium and higher rental fees to offset the cost of the higher risk drivers. Sure, it might not be fair to the older safer driver who is unlikely to get in an accident, but it will make renting a car and paying for car insurance for the young high risk drivers more accessible. Hey, what's good for the goose... |

Hey, what's good for the goose...
There would have to be a mandatory 'give up your drivers license' age.....that would even the playing field.... it's all about actuarial science/theory/gambling.....so as one ages they should pay more because an older body costs more to keep going IF one chooses to go to the 'shop doc' for regular tune ups... just sayin'....do you know your virtual value????? |

having healthcare policed by IRS and controlled through payroll companies is dangerous.....they can 'trim the fat' anytime a politician speaks at a podium prior to elections......
procedure XYZ can only be performed according to the new research and actuarial theory....
ie: lower the cost for some folks who don't fall under the subsidies....

Hey, what's good for the goose...
Im not giving a " what if" example. Im trying to show that younger people need and must pay for the wild and crazy lifestyle of youth. Not because they are sick. Accidents and violence cause non lethal injuries that cost a lot of money. he guy laying in the bed where senders works is not a wiseguy any more and cant cause much trouble now. Young people drive too fast crash and paralyze their friends and it cost a lot of money- People under 35 should be healthy but when you feel good you want to gethappy and crazy andthen boom everybody is in the hospital |

Unfortunately your analogy isn't statistically proven. Just ask yourself this question...How many people under 35 do YOU know that are paralyzed or require medical maintenance care for an injury do to reckless behavior. Now ask yourself how many people over 55 that you know are being treated for cancer, heart disease, had triple bypass surgery, are diabetic, have arthritis? All of which are very expensive to treat. I would almost bet somebody in your family at that age is being treated for these chronic illnesses, and the odds of somebody under 35 is nearly zero. Don't take a news story about a car accident and think it is causes the same amount of financial stress to the medical system. Go sit down with a life insurance agent and have them quote you a price for $100k policy for a 18 year old vs a 50 year old on high blood pressure medication. You will get two very different numbers. There is a reason for that. |
