Hawley says that another flaw found in SAFE Act is more proof it should be repealed

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) highlighted a piece of legislation passed by the Assembly addressing yet another flaw in the NY SAFE Act as further proof that the law must be fully repealed. The bill would exempt certain retired law enforcement officers from restrictions related to magazine capacity. Hawley agreed with the principle of the effort, but noted that such loopholes illustrate the need to repeal the law and start from scratch.
“Not only should retired police officers be exempt from the NY SAFE Act, but so should veterans and every other law-abiding American citizen,” said Hawley. “It seems that as more time passes, more glaring flaws come to light. It comes as no surprise that the bad process used to force this law on New Yorkers has led to bad policy. The sad truth is, I have little doubt we will be amending this irresponsible law piece by piece for a long time to come. That’s why we must repeal the SAFE Act and approach sensible, life-saving measures the correct way; by incorporating the voices of law-abiding New Yorkers whose lives are affected by the legislature’s actions.”
Hawley recently wrote to Governor Andrew Cuomo sharing the results of a petition he circulated advocating the repeal of the NY SAFE Act. In less than three months, the petition garnered 1,050 signatures from local law-abiding citizens.

The State Assembly is run by a scuzz ball so what do we expect. And the majority conference for years has been filled with a bunch of jelly fish who just sit around and wait to vote as the special interest groups from NYC tell them to vote.

We have never really set the bar very high when we have chosen our Assembly members. The one former local Assemblyman that I admired greatly was the late Clarke Wemple but he was a long-time friend of the family so my opinion may be skewed on that account. At least, George Amedore and Jim Tedisco were willing to take stands on the issues. Otherwise who have we elected to the Assembly that has actually shown any real leadership qualities and actually accomplished anything meaningful ?????????????????????????????????????????
One would have to go back to the late local Assemblyman and Speaker Oswald D. Heck to find a local state legislator that we could actually be proud of and point to his accomplishments in office.
Frankly, for the better part of my lifetime -- we had Arlington Van Dyke, Gail Schaefer and Paul Tonko -- (Gail is a nice person and didn't serve very long so I will leave her out of this discussion) -- the other two could have been replaced by bobble-head dolls that just smiled and nodded their head (voted "yes") when their party leaders told them to vote on the Assembly floor.

WOW! Did not hear this clarity when DEM morons A-Jello and Phil Dreck were running last November. Totally agree on Clark Wemple who was a class act all the way. BTW, check out Phil Steck "office" on Upper Union. Wemple and Tedisco went decades without a taxpayer financed hangout.

Clark Wemple was my uncle's best friend -- so I knew him first as a good friend of the family -- and only as I grew older did I get to know him as a great public servant. When I was working in a store in Albany during college, Mr. Wemple used to stop in every two or three weeks just to check in to see how I was doing.
Jim Tedisco has always been friendly to me even though I have not lived in his district nor am I member of the same party. Like Mr. Wemple, he is able to engage with people of differing views in a friendly manner. And I believe that Mr. Tedisco has tried to speak out on the issues and fightfor what he believes is right even though he is in the minority within the Assembly.
I like Mr. Santabarbara personally and I would hope that he would rise to the occasion when necessary to stand up for us (the district and upstate) against the special interest groups from New York City.
As for Mr. Steck, I only met him once and can't say that I was overly impressed with him -- but maybe he will prove me wrong and rise to the occasion as well.
Unfortunately, I don't think anyone in the Democratic conference from upstate has the "appropriate anatomical parts" to stand up to Speaker Silver and the special interest groups from New York City.

Well sure enough Cuomo just amended the bill allowing FORMER law enforcement officers to be immune from the safe act, and he expects us to follow it, what a crock of $hit.

Rumor has it that the big computer that the state has to store all the registration data from gun owners will remain empty.
