Last night at exactly 3:18AM our resident Grey Catbird decided that it was morning and time for
everyone to wake up. His song continued for at least a half hour at which time he was still
singing, but I fell back to sleep.

If you've never heard one, their song is much more than a few 'chirps'...
Quoted Text
"Male Gray Catbirds sing a long, halting series of short notes; one whole song can last many
minutes. Sounds include whistles, squeaks, gurgles, whines, and nasal tones.
The notes often are imitations of other birds as well as of frogs and mechanical sounds.
The series of sounds is random, but certain notes are often repeated".

(Cornell Lab of Ornithology)

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I occasionally get a catbird passing through, but there is a mockingbird I believe who likes to try out a medley well after dark. I've heard the cat type sounds from catbirds, but I didn't know all those other noises came from them. We have something around now with a really loud, distinctive song, and Ithink it may either be a Veery or a Carolina Wren. I've only seen it once. The songs I listen to for those birds don't sound exactly like this one. I wish the birds would stay still long enough for me to get all my guides out and positively identify them, but they are uncooperative.

Just in the past few days there was a new bird that wow are they loud and their call was confusing the living daylights out of me.  I couldn't help but notice.  He is somewhere on the East side of the house I live in.

All I could think of is he is the one that starts waking all the other birds up.  I even put my digital audio recorder out the other day to try to record him and how loud he is to the other birds.  I haven't seen him yet.

Was really surprised to find your post since I bet that is what I have been hearing the past few mornings.  He starts out around 3:30 the others start closer to four.
