Suspicious boxes
lead police to
evacuate store
    ROTTERDAM — Suspicious packages found outside the Price Rite supermarket in Crosstown Plaza forced the store to be evacuated for more than an hour Saturday night.
    Rotterdam police received a call about 7:10 p.m. about a few packages wrapped in red tissue paper and without any writing that were left next to a garbage can by the Price Rite entrance, said police Lt. Tom Culbert.
    "Management thought it was suspicious and unusual," Culbert said.
    The building was evacuated, and an area in front of the store was blocked off with crime scene tape. A bomb-sniffing dog was called in from the Schenectady Police Department to inspect the packages.
    After the inspection, the boxes were opened by two police officers, who found nothing in them. Police were let people back into the store about 8:30 p.m., after it was determined there was no danger.
