If you really want to know more you should contact Mr. Demarco of the Tyler Demarco foundation, he has stats on different areas that are affected by cancer.

I actually talked to him about as per your suggestion, was full of interesting information about the subject.

My thoughts is the chemicals getting pumped out from GE.

Had a long conversation with him myself.  Interesting stuff.  Very sad what happened to his child though.  They say everything happens for a reason, maybe Mr. DeMarco will discover something that will keep this from happening so often to our children.

Thyroid cancer in women is indeed on the rise. It could be linked to hormones in food or something really inconvenient like cell phone use. As far as children with cancer, wouldn't the state health department keep figures on that? I don't know too many people with young children in Rotterdam.

X-rays like the ones used when taking x-rays of teeth have been linked to thyroid cancer. Dentists now use a throat plate to protect that area when taking x-rays.

SOY. just google the  3 words soy-woman- thyroid together. Most woman with thyroid problems are or were soy lovers. Although nothing wrong with the oil - its everything else made from whats left over after they squeeze out the oil.

Risk factors for thyroid cancer:

Gender and age
For unclear reasons thyroid cancers (like almost all diseases of the thyroid) occur about 3 times more
often in women than in men.

Thyroid cancer can occur at any age, but the risk peaks earlier for women (who are most often in
their 40s or 50s when diagnosed) than for men (who are usually in their 60s or 70s).

A diet low in iodine
Follicular thyroid cancers are more common in areas of the world where people’s diets are low in iodine.
In the United States, most people get enough iodine in their diet because it is added to table salt and
other foods. A diet low in iodine may also increase the risk of papillary cancer if the person also is
exposed to radioactivity.

Radiation
Exposure to radiation is a proven risk factor for thyroid cancer. Sources of such radiation include certain medical treatments and radiation fallout from power plant accidents or nuclear weapons.

Hereditary conditions and family history
Several inherited conditions have been linked to different types of thyroid cancer, as has family history. Still, most people who develop thyroid cancer do not have an inherited condition or a family history of the disease.

Another thing I found out related to the thyroid - people have given up adding table salt to their food the way we used to, because there is so much salt in commercially prepared food, but commercial salt is not iodized. We get iodine from the soil in this part of the country, but how many of the vegetables we eat are grown here any more? Iodine is essential for a healthy thyroid.

the 'experts' feed most of the population food PRODUCTS instead of food....BIG DIFFERENCE...not to mention hormones/antibiotics
