Then came the redistribution of wealth. 2 Tier tax system, outrageous spending, and the beginning of the perpetual corporate welfare funded on the backs of the taxpayers and businesses. The perpetual reinvestment in downtown, over and over again, bankrupting the entire city and driving away business after business. All for the profit of the chosen few. Now we face a huge deficit with no way to repay it. Double digit tax increases every time you open the paper. Reassessing all the homes to circumvent the property tax caps. Even facing all this they, keep trying the same failed build another brand new downtown plan. The end result?
Out credit is running out, we can't even afford to seize properties because the city is to broke. The Mayor and council struggle to make interest only payments while still raising the debt. Businesses and homeowners are fleeing like never before. For sale signs on every block. Boarded up homes we can't even afford to demolish. We can't even give them away. Continuing the same path that has brought us here can only bring total bankruptcy and Schenectady will be a ghost town. No f'en tour bus filled with wined and dined realtors, or Broadway shows will fix the financial disaster that we are in.
We have gone from number one in the world to one of the worst cities in the country.
Crime didn't cause this. Taxpayers defaulting didn't cause this. The city management has caused all of it by their actions. Crime and tax defaults are the symptoms of a failure to manage a city properly.
They can blame the recession, blame Obama, blame NYC for sending their poor. The blame rests solely on the management. Nothing can stop the downward spiral until spending gets cut every year until the debt is paid down. The corporate welfare must stop. They will run out of homes in a few short years to take.
