If anyone has any information about Mohawkville, Engine Hill, Athen's Junction
or Factoryville, please reply. All were former Hamlets along with Coldbrook that
made up Rotterdam during the late 1800s and into the next century. Very little
remains about these neighborhoods.
I have some notes and some images with some information below.
Centre Street apparently was what is now Broadway and went up Crane St to
Mohawkville.
Henry M. Crane was a memberof the New York State Assembly.
Henry M. Crane was Rotterdam Town Supervisor from 1857 - 1858.
Mohawkville Manor is near McKinley Ave, Gladstone St and Bryan Ave.
Mohawkville School was at the corner of Altamont Ave and Crane St.
Norfolk Ave listed on the unfound as of yet, Map of Mohawkville.
Athens Junction (Getman’s), and Mohawkville were quiet, pleasant settlements
in the southeastern part of town.
Peter Cristler was the first superintendant of one of Crane's factories.
It looks as though Mt.Pleasant was formerly Engine Hill
Athen's Junction became Carman.
I haven't placed Van Eppsville yet.
