No, they were always called "Assault Rifles". Originally an automatic version, the m 16...
The "AR15" is an "Assault Rifle" as designated by the AR.
Much like the one sold in this thread, a  Del-Ton AR-15

Many are based on the Assault Rifle originally designated the  AK 47
Based on the "Avtomat Kalashnikova" assault rifle, one of the first Assault Weapons developed after WW2.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

AR in AR15 stands for Armalite, the original designer to the style weapon.  AK in AK47 stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova, the original designer of the weapon.  AK DOESN'T STAND FOR "ASSULT KNIFE"LOL

An AR-24 Pistol doesn't stand for "Assault Rifle" Pistol.  DUMBASS!!!!

BOX, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE YOUR OWN PROPAGANDA!  AR ONLY DESIGNATES "ASSAULT RIFLE" WHEN THE LEFT WING GUN GRABBERS WANT TO  CONVINCE AND SCARE THE IGNORANT MASSES OF THAT.  OTHERWISE, THE PEOPLE THAT TAKE TIME TO THINK AND RESEARCH KNOW IT REPRESENTS ARMALITE.

The original term for a assault rifle was a selective fire or FULL auto rifle, the left somehow put their own spin on it to label sporting rifles assault rifles, even to this day I hear liberals trying to argue why citizens need a fully automatic rifle, to them they think semi-autos are full autos

Here is an AR-7, another "assault rifle", since AR designate assault rifle.  It's a 22 caliber "assault rifle".

Intersting thing about the AR7 was that it could be broken down and all parts stored in the stock.
Also some claims it would float,

The "AR' in AR-15 stands for ARmalite. ArmaLite used the "AR" designator on all their weapons - the AR-7 was a .22 cal survival rifle, The AR-17 was for a semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun, the AR-13 was a hyper-velocity multi-barrel gun system for aircraft, etc.

That's great!  If your neighbor is still watching, I will explain my tongue and cheek post of using the left wings famed tactic from Saul Alinsky's Rule for Radicals.  It is rule number 13.
RULE 13: “Pick the target(veterans), freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

These are the same tactics being used by the left in the gun debate.

I hope you enjoy your breakfast joebxr.  And hopefully you and your neighbor will take time to learn the tactics being used by statist politicians against the public in order to derail any kind of rational debate.

Glad you enjoyed breakfast.

Also glad you got enjoyment when I make the argument with a premise that affects a group that you are sensitive to. Nobody opposes restrictive laws that they don't think it will affect one their sacred cows.  I get enjoyment watching your panties get in a bunch when I suggest vets be targeted by laws.  This country is full of NIMBY'S.

Apparently, everone seems to have missed this....

Quoted Text
On Feb. 24, Wassell sold an Armalite AR-10 Magnum to the investigator for $2,600 along with some more ammo.

During the second transaction, which was already illegal under the NY SAFE Act (the AR-10 had one military-style cosmetic feature), the investigator set another tripwire by telling Wassell that he was a convicted felon.  Instead of terminating the sale, Wassell remarked, “The whole felony, banned-for-life thing, it’s stupid.”

While, I too think the NYSafe Act is unconstitutional, but this guy was going to sell to anybody.
