Following that huge reassessment (reduction in asssessments) in 2000, a house is assessed for $120,000.
In 2002, the house is purchased for $172,000
In 2005, following a mini-reasssessment in a few areas of the city because property values had increased, the assessment is increased to $127,000 (hardly ANYWHERE NEAR the much higher purchase price)
In 2008, following that big reassessment (after the properties were also looked at more carefully, they had those information collectors visit homes), which follows big increases in property values, the house is reassessed to $161,000. This is an assessment that STILL does not reflect the increase in value that occurred after it was purchased for a price still higher than the new assessment.
Now, 2013, mayor puts the house in the "Desperation" program for attempts to sell homes listing it for $259,000. As the mayor has no problem with this asking price, I trust we'll see this house reassessed to $260,000 on the tentative roll this year?
Of course, this is the property whose owner is a political crony of McCheesy, Gillen, the ex-mayor of BS, and that savage woman. And today the savage woman heads the state real property office. And the property owner lies on a STAR application and the city allows an illegal exemption to continue, even after "we nayboobs" make the information pubic
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
There is another DEM insider who had her assessment lowered $100,000 by City Council resolution. Schenectady has a two tier system. DEM party hacks/BS artists get lower assessment and immediate City Council action. For the Schenectady Syndrome victims-nothing. And if you complain too much at the City Hall rail watch for a Code Enforcer to measure your house numbers {no joke}. Is Fat Morris still stealing a double tax exemption and why is the town assessor refusing to enforce his duties?
This situation is the poster child for what ois wrong with the assessment regulations in this whole state. The rules are to loose. No one is held accountable for what they do. The assement wasnt chnaged in 2008 without the assessor having their paddys on it. This was a concious oversite and is totally unacceptable. This $100,000 difference had to be made up by padding other propertys in the city.

McCheese and company do not understand that having assessments all over the place and refusing to do a reassessment are making the city VERY unattractive to any newcomers with any sense. The only reason I can come up with for such willful ignorance is not a pretty one. This is good work. I wish that one of the newspapers around here would hire a reporter with some expertise in these complex financial matters. It's something that I think a lot of people did not pay all that much attention to, even new homebuyers, before the big real estate crash. That's how so manypeople got roped in, they did not think it was anything you had to pay much attention to, and most people still don't know what hit us.
